Beta over, what did everyone think?

Personally, the single player was somewhat disappointing. The combat was a bit bland. After the first few enemies I killed, it all felt the same. They all shared the same reaction when getting hit by bullets. The combat itself resembled that of an old arcade game more than anything else. Strafe side-to-side unleashing on a swarm of enemies, and all is good. The different sections of Old Russia all felt identical; I felt like I was playing the same mission repeatedly. It didn't matter what area I was in, it showed no real difference to the area across the map. There was nothing I hadn't seen everywhere else. Exploration didn't really seem to exist. In the Tower, I would see mountains, city lights, and vast areas that left me wanting to leap out and explore. Then it would dawn on me it's all cosmetic. The same goes for Old Russia... I would see the scenic background, but nothing that would have any impact on my experience. The area I could play around in was all just a dull field, with some aliens floating around. Nothing noteworthy. Multiplayer (PvP) was alright, but the team balancing was fairly bad. I had a few decent matches, but most of them were unbalanced. I either found myself on a team full of other level-capped players playing against a team of mostly low-levels, or I was on a team mostly comprised of low-levels up against a team of level-caps. Most matches I was in were either win by a lot, or lose by a lot. Although it was ultimately the same FPS experience you get anywhere else. One nice thing was that alternate ammo types had to be dropped, to help prevent people from "camping" with a sniper rifle. Though, with the match types like what was available in beta, that won't be much help. Once the full game hits, people will be smart enough to leave two people "camping" at each flag, fortified, baiting the enemy to their overall secure location (as they have to come for the flag). In turn, it will just be another version of what Call of Duty already is. It by no means was a bad game, but the media surrounding it clearly wasn't from an unbiased, analytical perspective. Middle of the road, at best. What does everyone else think? You're nuts, this is incredible! Eh, so-so. Everything I was hoping for. Good, but...
