I had an epiphany today.
remember in the legendary ending of Halo 3 you saw Chief drifting towards Requiem?
WHAT IF BUNGIE MEANT IT TO BE THE TRAVELER?
We know that Destiny was around way back in the days of the last Halo games; there's even an Easter egg in ODST. We also know that Bungie was somewhat hesitant to continue the franchise after the original trilogy. Perhaps instead of hinting at another Halo, they were actually referencing Destiny!
Now this theory does have it's fallacies. Obviously, the Destiny universe and the Halo universe are separate. And like I said, Bungie knew that Halo was a franchise that should not be stretched past it's prime, so it's likely they did not intend for the universes to be the same at any point. So really, there's no logical reason why the Traveler would exist in the Halo continuity.
Even with that in mind, it's cool to consider the possibility. We all know how much Bungie likes Easter eggs and hinting at the future, so maybe John and Cortana were drifting towards the Traveler, or maybe I'm just a way-too-enthusiastic fan.
Discuss. :]

No, because Mendicant Bias tells John that he's sending him to the Forerunners.
