To carry over, or not to carry over? That is the question.

Alright, so everyone has a different opinion on whether we should get our Beta progress transferred over to the real game, and in this topic I want to definitively figure out both sides, the nays and the yays. First though, let me throw my bias at you. I love my gear. I took forever to get my gear. I love you Shingen-C (I hate your perk though). Now, rational reasons (that may not be that rational) to transfer: 1. Time. I took my time to play through out this beta, and look for bugs, heck loot the world too. I have grinded Devils Lair way too much. I wouldnt want my time to just be wasted. Rational reasons not to transfer: 1. This isn't the full game. You are here to test servers and check out bugs. Not fair to others who did not have this chance. Now, derail! Fire shots! But be completely reasonable that other people has strains on their time, and put importance to different things. Can you help me root out any other, solid, ration reasons for either side?

  • I have a feeling it's going to transfer over because I can still see my characters linked to my bnet account.

  • You didn't waste your time playing the game...you used it to build a opinion on what can enhance the game, what wasn't working...finding glitches etc... You used this experience in hopes of creating feed back. So please, give bungie some feed back . This thread you've created has absolutely NO feed back in it. If you think you wasted your time cause you don't keep your items, I'd say it's fair if bungie felt they wasted their time letting you test the beta. Let the devs make the decision. There's way to many threads like this. I'll say this again...I've repeated myself many times on here.. The testers on bungies end had their characters and items wiped on a monthly basis. Those characters helped shape the new build. Bigger badder and better. Months and months of saying goodbye to their guardians and experience. Deej wrote it in his weekly updates more than once. So don't feel bad about getting a character wipe once for a few days of play.....I didn't get upset that I couldn't keep my alpha gear..nor the beta. New Better final build comes September 9th. Buck up guardian. It ain't that bad.

  • They say that the players equipment will transfer over, just not our level and skills.

  • I say carry over because the legendary Handcannon I got from iron banner is the only one where I like how it looks that I've seen so far

    • It's a beta. Don't carry over stats. Many people probably progressed their characters unfairly via exploits that will probably be fixed by launch anyway. Let everyone start fresh and at the same level come September 9th. You guys will get over it a week after the game is released.

      • I say no transfer just because I'm hoping the start of the game will be better than what was put on the beta. And really if you have progressively harder lvls you'll be lvl 8 in the first couple of hours. By day two all the stuff you got on the beta will be no good because you will have lvled beyond it anyway.

      • The beta has been made available for download to everyone, even without a code.. That kind of invalidates the "not everyone has the opportunity to play" thing..

        • well I for one don't think it should carry over for a few reasons . 1.it's level 8 gear it wasn't that hard to get ,now if it had been level 20 legendary gear maybe but at best we got green rarity so in my opinion it's not that big of a deal. 2.they(Bungie) said what was available in the beta was a small fraction of what they have planned for release ,if that is true I'd like to explore other avenues for weapons and gear in general . 3.and my last opinion , I find it better to start fresh with new gear as mechanics may be different than what we experienced ,if this is the case it's better to go in with new gear and learn what changed than to get our old gear and find out it now sucks. P.s the only thing I think should transfer is character design some of us got our character looking just how we want and it would be a slight annoyance to recreate that ,but not impossible.

          • Bungie's engineer Roger Wolfson has already made it clear. “Let’s say Destiny 2 [and] Destiny 3 are out, and we have new players joining the fun. [They] want to play those new games alongside those who have been playing Destiny from the beginning. [We want to ensure] they won’t feel like they’re four years behind. And then, if they want to, they’ll be able to go back and pick up the old content on their same character. So we’ve done a lot of planning for how that’s going to work, to not make people feel like they have years worth of levelling up to do.” What this means, players whom have not played the Beta does not have any disadvantages for have a late start. Hence, you know what this means ;)

          • I would personally like it to carry over, but I know it is highly unlikely it will. It would just be nice to pick up where you left off. I will probably be buying Destiny for the One, though (I'm beta testing on 360) so even if they do transfer, I'll miss out across consoles

You knew it was beta when you started. You know that betas don't usually carry over to full game. You know bungie said there would be one permanent reward from the beta on the 26th. You chose to play as much as you did knowing all of this. No hate for the 30 year olds :)

              • If they cant carry over the character can they alt least carry over what we have in the vault that way we can just store all our goodies and cone back to them when we reach the appropriate level

              • Bump! Hopefully for people who wont insult 30 year olds living in basements, nor the younger generation.

              • Some of us have real responsibilities, we arent all 30 living in mommies basement collecting checks and unemployed wearing cut off blue jeans and a stained wife beater. Those of us that have jobs that dont involve 4 hrs of putting a burger on a bun and another 4 asking if they want large fries dont have the time to sit here and play 30+ hrs in a week. The fact that teens played hard enough to get legendary gear sucks for them get a life and put the lotion down. Beta is a testing phase. I was in the alpha got nothing in the beta probably will get nothing so those getting an emblem should be happy. Look all beta is is the company testing the game out with thousands or hundreds of thousands or more people that they dont have to legitimately hire and in return they give you a lil something something to make you happy, but progress saved gives an unfair advantage, for starters the leveling in the full release will not be as fast, plus all the fixes that will come will make the the game have a fresher feeling and knowing that we made the changes and showed what needed to be fixed should have people excited because being part of a beta means you are just as important to the development team as a tester. On the other hand I will say this Bungie made a game that actually for once had limited numbers of limited and specially limited editions, meaning not everyone was allowed to obtain one, so because of this I believe there should be something a little more than an emblem maybe a weapon with the same emblem on it maybe legendary or exotic but cant be used until level 20 something for beta testers to look forward too but a full transfer, not at all I'd cancel my $150 preorder the second it was announced
