Marathon and Destiny Connected: Theory

I was on my conditioning run, alone for cross country today, I was thinking about Bungie games. Specifically Pathways Into Darkness and The Marathon series, who's storylines are connected. I then started to think of Destiny and I wondered if the same could be true for Marathon and Destiny, however in an indirect way. Both Marathon and Destiny take place in a similar time frame which makes it very unlikely for both to take place in the same universe. I say it is impossible that they take place in the same universe, but I do say it is conceivable in the same multiverse. From this point on you may be facing spoilers for the marathon series and for destiny, so be warned and leave if you don't want to see this. Now as I previously stated it is impossible for them to be in the same universe, but it is possible to be connected through the multiverse. In the Marathon series the AI Durandal has his ultimate goal set to escape to another universe before the collapse of his own, he wants to "Travel" shall we say. In fact one of his motives is to become godlike, in one of his more famous quotes he says "Escape will make me God". Durandal is also known to have used an "undead"/revived human in the case of the marathon series in order to do his bidding, we also know that the Traveler uses "undead"/revived humans to do his bidding in the case of the Guardians. I propose that Durandal achieved his goal of escape and ended up in the universe of Destiny, and when he got to the Sol system he caused the golden age for humanity bestowing upon them some of his knowledge. But what about this ancient enemy the "Darkness"? Well my answer to who they are is that they are the W'rkncacnter which are creatures of chaos in the Marathon/ Pathways into Darkness Universe which have been called immortal so what if these did the same by changing universes? They would conceivably rival Durandal in power maybe even so to make a powerful blow against him ending a golden age?

  • It's popular belief that Destiny is the events after Halo. The Destiny logo is the old Seventh Column. The Didact's ball? The rings worked and destroyed most everything. Some sanctuaries were dedicated to preservation, to rebuild. Remember the widespread rumor that MasterChief dies at the end of Halo? The rings work and everything in Destiny is a product of the aftermath. Explains why Bungie and 343 became different companies. They're running a Marathon. The Xbox's flagship game will always be Halo. Destiny is the future of Halo. Which is why 343 Industries. 343 Guilty Spark, the Forerunner monitor. When all the Halo haters who love Destiny realize this fact, a spark of guilt. Some believe "Operation Desert Storm", "Myth", "Marathon", "Halo" and "Destiny" are like chunks on a timeline.

Destiny and Marathon won't have connected universes but no doubt Destiny will have Marathon (and maybe Halo) references and Easter Eggs such as this http://i.imgur.com/R6yUvOq.png It's seems that building bears the Marathon logo Also in Destiny there is a place called Charlemagne's vault. Charlemagne was King of the Franks and King of Italy and there were 3 famous swords that were connected with him and the name of those 3 swords are Cortana, Durandal and Joyeuse. Durandal in Marthon and Cortana in Halo are named after those swords and in Destiny we could see an AI or atleast something called Joyeuse considering there is a location in the game called Charlemagne's Vault and Charlemagne's personal sword was called Joyeuse

      • Pretty sure they confirmed that the Destiny Franchise is not related to the Marathon Franchise.

Interesting little connection there - it would be great if there was some sort of twist like this in destiny! I do doubt it will actually be the case, however Bungie has referenced their own games before, so don't be surprised to spot subtle similarities!
