I'm going to buck the trend of many of the posts I've seen here. I'd be interested in seeing a difficulty level, particularly when playing solo, that reins things in a bit.
First, a little background. I'm likely not your target demographic. While I've played all the Halo games, I played them for the single-player campaign, typically on Easy mode. I'm a 50 year old man with arthritic hands. I enjoy a great story, but I have nowhere near the reflexes or dexterous digits needed to play these at "twitch" speed.
So I have my little level 5 Warlock doing the level-appropriate content (finding the ghosts and subsequently turning on an array.) I'm suddenly faced with wave after unrelenting wave of multiple enemies, each seemingly more difficult than the last. I was, to the best of my ability, using all my weapons and skills, trying to remain mobile, etc. But it ultimately reaches a crescendo of mayhem where you have around half-dozen ranged mobs shooting at you while a small army of thralls literally throw themselves at you. I had picked off several, but was overwhelmed by at least 5 more. Four deaths later under this very same scenario, and...at the risk of being self-contradictory, I calmly rage-quit the game without finishing the objective.
I don't play FPS's as a rule, at least not the competitive ones that seem to be so popular. I don't have hundreds of hours of accumulated experience and muscle memory from playing the CoD's and Battlefields of the world to fall back on. Consequently, I don't have a large pool of friends (particularly those who qualified for beta) to draw from to make a fireteam. Unless I'm missing something, a matchmaking feature for Story mode would be most welcome (I'm sure someone will politely inform me if there already is such a thing, right? ;) ) Barring that, scaling the solo encounters down to something manageable, even at a slight penalty to experience, would be most welcome. I don't play for a high body count, I play to experience a compelling story. It would be a shame to discourage older and/or less experienced players, particularly those who predominately or exclusively solo, from completing the content simply because they're literally consumed from all sides by hostiles.
I'm certain there are those who will scoff at such a notion. Those individuals are typically much younger and far more experienced in this genre, and routinely play on hard mode against high level combatants, blindfolded and with both thumbs tied behind their back. Sadly, I am not one of these people. For me, if I can point a weapon in the general vicinity of a bad guy and start slinging lead without blowing my own foot off, then it's a Good Day™.
Anyway, kindly consider it anyway. Thanks Bungie.
