The vault of glass: check points ... yes, no, or maybe both?

Both being the most intriguing I'll start by saying either some strikes can have check points and harder ones don't, or brave can and legendary can't, or an additional difficulty setting similar to Halo's skull system letting you simply remove check points for harder achievements turned in Destiny to better rewards. Such a system adding removal of other features increasing exotic drop rate. Could this actually be a possible system already included and not talked about? I understand why people want check points and that people have lives. I want something destiny - esq with dark souls difficulty. So sorry you have obligations that don't allow you to experience a 16 hour raid weekly like myself. Your hardcore gamers can do longer than 16 hours without a break. Should "vault of glass" 16 hour raids have checkpoints? Should all raids have check points? Should we have an on off button for check points or skulls Should removing check points or adding additional difficulty up the anti in rewards? Or no, no check points. If your fire team dies the mission should end. ^my fav

  • I vote no to check points. Bungie wanted this to be hard, they wanted to challenge their players and people are already begging to make it easier. I see so many people complaining about how because of the fact they have a "life" they can't do a raid that takes "16 hours" because they're always busy. I work a full time job, I have yard work to do, I have cats to take care of, and a girlfriend, and what some of you would call a life. When it comes to planning something like a 16 hour raid, you set a date you're free on with your friends that works best for all of you. A raid like this isn't meant to be cleared every day. It's not something you have to rush into.

          If it is honestly 16 to 20 hours long then we will definitely need Checkpoints... and the Vault of Glass isn't a Strike, it's a Raid...

          • This is how raids will work, speculation, but the most plausible scenario. Each week, each raid will have a lockout. That means that when you yourself kill a boss, that means the boss stays dead the whole week until the lockout resets. Even if you leave the raid and re enter it you will not be able to kill the boss again until the lockout resets. This goes for all the bosses. Say, you and your friend kill 3 out of the 10 bosses in the raid, your progress will remain capped at that point until it resets the following week. This is individual for all raids though. 2/10 on one, 5/7 on another, and maybe 12/15 on another. All progress will be capped per week. This is to ensure it can be cleared without a super marathon, and so you don't get too much hear too quickly. 1 peace of legendary/exotic per boss per raid each week. Which seems like a fairly good deal to me sense loot tables are randomized.

              No checkpoints! These raids should only be for the most hardened and devoted gamers. I work full time, school full time, and have a girlfriend overtime and i still find time for all of my raids and stuff in wow and other games. If you dont have time, make time -blam!-

              • Considering the word "raid" is generally associated with end-game activities in MMORPGs that can take a couple of hours when done perfectly with overgeared players, I'd assume it's going to be somewhat similar - once a boss is down, the instance is "saved" for all of the players until the weekly reset. It makes perfect sense, as it allows groups to form regular schedules, a few hours a few nights a week. It's one of those things where you're talking about 6 individuals having to make time over a reset period - not just one person. Having a weekly reset allows for all 6 of those individuals to set time aside across several days.

              • I don't mind having no checkpoints. But there should be an option to save and quit and keep your position when you decide to come back, if it is seriously going to last 16 hours.

                • The vault of glass won't take 16 hours. First of all, that was a post on a website in a forum. Second, it meant that they attempted the raid for 16 hours. That means dying and restarting, everything. Raids will only take roughly 2-3 hours once people know how to kill the bosses and are equipped to do so

                  • Check points in what sense? 1). If the entire party dies you start over the entire raid? 2). Or checkpoints in the sense the entire raid must be played in one sitting? I want checkpoints like number 1, (think like the checkpoints they had in the Devil's Lair) but I think the raid should have to played within one sitting; i.e. without logging out of the destiny servers or going into orbit. I'm not saying you can't set the controller down to take a piss or grab a cup of water over a long ass raid, but you shouldn't be able to save it and come back later. Also, I don't think the raids will be 16 hours... not even close. I'm thinking 6-10 hours

                    • Checkpoints in all raids please. Brave less checkpoints and in legendary even lesser. But a sixteen hour raid better have checkpoints no matter the difficulty. Or only those Japanese guys that die playing mmos will beat it.

                      • Should be both. Maybe on Brave there are checkpoints, but on Legendary there aren't.

                        • I feel like it'd be a bit much to offer something that takes over six hours and expect most people to enjoy it some will.. If (married with a kid and dog and in the military) I could find ten hours straight of game time scalene to me I'd be at it in a heart beat.. But here in the real world it'd be nice if there were a check point or two... There was an interview they referred to the raids as tiered events so that could potentially mean that there are benchmarks to reach at which point you could take a break it'd be complicated but that would be good send because I would love! To tackle the epic level of feat that higher difficulty setting raids will offer

                            MMO Raids work in stages. Defeat a boss and it saves. But they are also timed and will reset after a certain point. Hence allowing players to realistically play the raid. Longer time in doesn't equate harder. (look at demon souls, and dark souls) anymore then grinding is anything but a chore and bore. You can make bosses and dungeons difficult without making em into a life sink.

                          • Of course there has to be check points. Sitting in front your tv playing a game that long isnt healthy nor feasible to a casual friendly game. While I highly believe the current 16 hour time frame going around is 100% the dev hype bs machine, I have no doubt it will significantly more time than a regular strike. They arent going to put something in the game that isnt attainable to a majority of their playerbase, despite what the "hardcore" minority think will happen so Im pretty sure we will see checkpoints in some fashion throughout the raid, most likely after key boss battles.

                          • I like how all of these "try hards" think there should be no checkpoint for a 16 hour raid. Anyone with any sort of a normal life doesn't have time for a gaming session that long without save points. Use your logic and search your feelings.

                            • I think longer strikes should have maybe 1 checkpoint, and raids should have "stages". What I mean by this is there are areas like the entrance and so on, that you clear and then remain cleared so that you can stop and come back to that spot you left off, but If you stop before that you have to go back to the previous stage start or the start of the raid.
