Edit: I may not have mentioned, a big potential for the trade system to work would be to disable the exchange of glimmer. Unusable random gear pickups can still be traded, but players can't "boost" or "farm glimmer". Also, disable the exchange of high tier uniques, and vendor gear.
Ugh. People don't understand the true nature of MMOs (as much as bungie refuses to call Destiny one). If Destiny wants to be as social as it claims to be, then trade will eventually need to be implemented. There is no indisputable reason not to.
Here are some tried and true methods of controlling "item twinking"; giving low game time players high rarity/high game time items.
1. Account/character bind certain weapons/gear after equipping them, or after decryption. "This item is permanently bound to this account once you decrypt it. Continue?"
2. Only allow trading of extra rare drops for a certain period of time after pickup. "This item becomes untradeable in 0:52:14."
3. Only allow trading of certain drops to players who completed the same raid/event alongside you, by implementing a post game lobby trade feature. "This item will no longer be tradeable once you leave. Continue?"
And I'm sure there's a ton of other ways to keep trade in the game without breaking it. The more powerful items can easily have restrictions put on them (see: WoW, DCUO, most other online RPGs), and the green/blue or lower rarity can be unrestricted. It's just stupid for me to get another copy of my awesome gun with a better stat roll, and have to trash the old one for 12 measly glimmer. Even more stupid for me to have to tell my friend and fire team ally that I just got the rare drop he was hoping for and I'm trashing it for inventory space.
Please voice your opinions or solutions. This is a feature that's important to me, and many others, and I'd love for it to be made to work.
See you starside.

All I want to do is trade my red death for my buddies hard light. Is that really to much to ask?
-
I think trade like for like as in bring a trade system in to trade legendary armour for legendary armour as I am a Titan but have a couple hunter legendary items as it keeps the trade system fair can't really 'exploit it'

Destiny appealed to me a lot because it was about creating your own unique character and when your fellow guardian saw your amor and your weapons. And they say man where did you get that cool weapon or amor. I can say I did x and got this gun. Not how I bought it or traded it from my buddy because I was to lazy to do the work my self

Edited by Nashtalia: 6/23/2014 1:12:40 AMi do not want a TRADING between other players...your loot should be only be exclusive to the looter and should not be TRADE-able.... so yah, no TRADE-SYSTEM between other players...loot that you loot should be bound to you only...no one else.

Id love a trade system. In the beta all i did was run with my friends. We did every mission together and sometimes my friend got the scout rifle i wanted and i got the assault rifke he wanted, a trade systwm would increase playability
-
My solution is no trades.

Look at that ridiculous list, do you not think THAT might be the reason they don't want trading? There would have to be so many exceptions and restrictions to add just so people wouldn't easily level or easily kill everything with traded items. It simplifies things not having trading and it prevents cheating or getting ahead. I personally think they're taking the correct approach here, because I like being able to see what people have and knowing that was their own work. It reflects the player and yes, I believe it does tell a story.

Edited by SirTheProper: 10/29/2014 6:56:06 AMI think an exchange system, of exchanging items of equal value would be worthwhile, but none of your solutions would prevent the issues that are preventing Bungie from implementing trade ideologically. Handing over engrams still awards items to those that can't/are too lazy to earn them. Making it a specific time thing, just make sure you dump that item immediately to your noob friend that has barely experienced destiny, and see how it changes the power creep factor for him/prevent him from experiencing the forging of a character through all sorts of experiences without the best weapons. But me I have a crap ton of Exotics and I am only missing a few and drop wise I know people in the other boat getting duplicates of stuff I don't have, I would like to trade those things. Destiny is not an MMO it does not meet the criteria. The last one is the closest to viable, but it is so limited as to be unusable. Trading glimmer is pointless in this game. Incredibly easy and capped at 25k would be absolutely no point in it, but you know what would happen? People farming loot caves for engrams and selling them for whatever they want. Yeah lets propagate loot cave-itis. What will fix the need for trading will be to award loot for actually doing stuff. -Start by removing engrams off the drop tables of all trash mobs. -Hand out engrams for actually engaging with the content/stop loot locking your content. -Don't want to hand out a legendary or a exotic every time a NIghtfall is done? fine, but at least give something for doing it more than once. Rep marks or at least tiger level chance for drops. Give engrams or something for patrol missions, right now other than bounties there is little to no draw to do these. FIX IT. Special named mobs like the archon priest mission on earth patrol should drop something specific albeit randomly. It engages people to try and get those drops. If people know where to get loot that is where they go. Right now you can find it faster in trash mobs in patrols. Maybe you should think about your core loot engagement Bungie.

I think trading within clans should be allowed. Why not share the wealth with your team mates?
-
As long as duping can't happen i'm for the trade idea.
-
i believe that it adds depth and realism to get something special from your friends.not only that but destroying something i cant use because of class, or race is such a waste.
-
What about just making even trades. Meaning, in order to get an exotic piece of armor from someone, you have to give an exotic piece of armor. Want a legendary weapon? Make sure you have one you're willing to get rid of. I don't want to start another character and it hurts me every time I get something cool I can't use, and I have to break it down just to get a shard, when I know one of my friends could have used it.

No trading. Assets are personal and define your journey through Destiny. > People don't understand the true nature of MMOs (as much as bungie refuses to call Destiny one). I'd say Bungie understands perfectly well the true nature of MMOs which is the whole reason why they don't want to call Destiny an MMO because IT IS NOT AN MMO. If what you're suggesting were to be implemented, it would bring Destiny much closer into being an MMO which would be bad because lots of people that like the game exactly as it is now would go away because they freaking hate MMOs (myself included). So, if you want to play an MMO play an MMO. But not Destiny. Because Destiny is no an MMO. I think that was clear ?
-
This isn't an mmo
-
Destiny isn't an MMO
-
a trading-system is unneccessary because the loot-system is perfect as it is, you deserve it than you get it and only your characters can use it, a trading system would change how the gamers play the game in a negative way and it would take the thrill out of the big challenges of the game which will reward you with the good stuff. go back to your WoW.
-
No trading, earn your gear or do without it
-
-
Is the basis of your point - Ugh. People don't understand the true nature of MMOs - that you know more than the people who do this for a living ?
-
-
Or just no.
-
Game is gold now breh...
-
Yeah it's called your 3 guardians and the vault
-
No, never.

Edited by OutHouse: 6/22/2014 9:43:59 PMTL:DR There will be trading in Destiny as stated by Bungie. It will not be released with the intial Launch of the game as they wish to balance and make sure it doesn't destroy the economy and thus will take their time perfecting it prior to implementing it in game if they feel it will benefit the consumer. Beyond anything anyone would like to say about trading.. it is one of the subjects most pointless to talk about. Bungie doesn't want trading, no if and or buts, they have stated in no uncertain terms they won't have this feature in the game. The only gear you will have is the stuff you yourself loot, which of course is going to be harder to get without trading, but considering how long they want this game to last, I suppose they don't want you to get certain items too easily anyways.
