So earlier today I said "I am feeling much better now" so a friend said "Knock on wood".
Then it became a discussion as to what was the appropriate number of knocks you should give to your chosen timber. We could not form a logical consensus, so I offered to ask the professionals on pointless discussion.
What is the proper amount of knocks to give wood, in order to avoid being jinxed?

7 knocks in 7 pieces of wood. Hold one for 7 minutes and you shouldn't be smited by the Gods.

Here is the supreme guide to knocking on wood. Of course, the number of knocks depends on the type of wood. Oak, 2 knocks. Pine, 8 knocks. Red cedar, 1 knock (this is the most magical wood). Mahogany, 4.3 knocks. Maple, 3 knocks. Douglas fir, 6 knocks.

Seven, do you know where you are?

All such things come in threes.
-
assuming you're not frank underwood, 2 knocks is the appropriate number.
