How To Become A Community Mentor?

Certain members of the community have earned themselves the title of 'Mentor' and i couldn't help but wonder, how do you get chosen to become one? (apart from the obvious "be an outstanding member of the community") what does this title involve? and who are they? (i only know of 2 or 3 so far) (Also, dare i ask could extra mentors be chosen in the future?...) Not seen any real mentions about this topic, so i thought i'd throw this out into the wild. If you are a mentor of the community, show yourself!...

The Mentors of the Welcoming Committee were a self-started group who took great initiative to make this community more friendly toward newcomers. I was cooking up a similar idea, so I drafted them as test pilots. With their amazing work in ruling the #Support forum, it's been easy to make them official agents of Bungie.net.

    • I would like to become a mentor for the community and a active volunteer to help those in need of guidance as well as cleaning posts of answered or solved questions that are messy and maintained in a nicely manner. Thank you for the link crimson.

    • Isn't this basically the same thing and was pretty much answered here by FoMan123? There is no formula to becoming chosen. Don't spend time chasing rank or trying to be popular. Be yourself and let the stars align on their own. :) PS - Don't be envious of those who have been granted this privilege but instead be happy for their opportunity ...and don't ask, beg, or demand that a special title/badge be given to you. ~ Guardian

    • Mentor. Ninja. They're just hats. Bungie recognizes those who are badasses in their community and they love to spoil their entire community at large. Do some awesome things and have fun while doing it. You'll derive your own sense of personal satisfaction, meet some awesome people along the way, and who knows, someday you may find yourself wearing a badge.

        • You certainly don't need a title to be a mentor. I've been trying for years to fulfill such a role on a personal basis. A title doesn't make it any more real.

I assume its something that just kind of happens. That a user just does "their thing" and bungie takes notice of what they are doing.

            • One thing I can tell you about the mentors is that they are all mythic-quality individuals who give up their time and energy for the betterment of the community. Also, they are pretty good at halo...

Adding to the question: If we have been warned once by ninjas, does that eliminate our chances of ever becoming a mentor or ninja for that matter?

                • How does one become a Mentor? I wouldn't know the answer to that particular question. But I would guess that there are clearly ways to show that you're NOT mentor material. Just my best guess though. I know that I don't know how to become one or how not to become one. But with that little example? It clearly shows to me that someone puts their own ego above serving the community. Petty bickering with other members (no matter how justified you think that it is, or even worse "I am only defending myself") is IMO a surefire way to show that someone is more likely to take things personally, reply/respond/react with their ego, and not act in the way that either of the two current Bungie "hats" are expected to behave.

I really can't put my finger on any exact moment that led to the day in which I became a mentor. All I can say is, you should always be the best person you can be. Carry yourself and treat others with respect. And if you have the time, throw a helping hand to those who need it. <3

                    • I would say, "Do not try to become a Mentor, simply because you want the title." One might realize this feature becoming a fault in the system. People behaving nicely, earning a title and then turning out to be somewhat of a pompous A-hole due to the fact that they've been given an e-ego boost. Then the title is stripped, and multiple whiny complaints ensue. But what I WILL say is this... As I have somewhat said before. Just respect one another. It's that simple. We've all been new here and somewhat clueless. Just lend a hand where you can and when you can, and you will help contribute to the site by educating and creating informed individuals. This makes everyone's visits here a lot easier and more enjoyable.

                      • Not sure why you'd want the title, it's not going to matter on your résumé... but if you have a knack for teaching and helping people, then go for it. And like good ol' Dalai Lama always says "Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible". ;)

You know that getting the title will make you have more responsabilities here. Like the mods, you cannot provoke chaos anymore (like the Joker from The Dark Knight). With that title, you will guide and lead people to what most of them have been or are struggling for something. If you get it, and become silent or never use it as intendent. The project will become more close hard to get in new people. So do you really want to be one?

                          • Is Mentor some sort of upcoming class in destiny? Usually it's a term that describes someone who imparts wisdom on others. I guess it's some weird title trend with this website, our ninjas aren't particularly covert.

                            • One thing i would add here. Having the title sounds great right? Until you realize you must uphold a certain code for yourself. So i would imagine you have to do a little looksy in the mirror and decide if being a mentor, is something u allready are? Or just a title you want to have.
