Looking at that article, a few line stand out to me.
Parsons also said creating and releasing a PC version of Bungie's shared world shooter would not be as easy as many believe, because all versions of the game connect to the same persistent video game world, which itself extends to multiple platforms.
"It is not nearly as simple as you think," he said. "It is one central world no matter what the platform, and so that requires lots of intensive thought.
To me, at least, this sounds like cross platform play. Am I reading this wrong? A response from a bungie employee would be useful.

Edited by Tibbaryllis2: 6/19/2014 1:56:22 AMI took this to mean there are centralized servers controlling every aspect of the persistent world across all consoles. To me this means things like day night cycles, weather, enemy activity, unique events, etc will be constant and consistent across the platforms, but they won't necessarily be able to play together. I.e. The Bungie Skynet tells everyone it is sunset in game and all active versions of that game enter into sunset at the same time. However this is also how they will transfer characters from past to current gen, so we at least know Xbox 360/one and PS3/4 can exist on the same servers.

I really hope that they at least let ps3 and ps4 play together. I'm getting Destiny on ps3 and I'm afraid that there won't be that many people online.
-
Also, I'd like to note that I didn't make this thread to hear people say "I think....". I made it so that we could get an official response, or people could make educated guesses as to what that statement could mean otherwise.

I would love to see this happen so there's plenty of people around to play and compete with but like some others posted it all boils down to companies getting along. I remember when Final Fantasy 14 was released the director of the game had said that they didn't release it on Xbox because Microsoft wanted to basically segregate their players from Playstation players and SE didn't want to do that. So if Sony and Microsoft can agree then it'd be nice to end this whole console war crap and play together in the same game without any "My console is better that yours" crap.
-
It's only possible if either one of these two things happen 1: Sony and Microsoft get all nicy nicy and allow cross platform play. 2: destiny creates dedicated servers where millions upon millions of people connect to and the fanboy war magically ends forever
-
It could be done with ps3 and ps4. Final Fantasy does it. Sony said they have design the ps4 to be able todo it. But it's up to the developers. Can cross play amongst consoles happen. That would be up to MS to allow it.
-
I am almost certain that current gen players will not be able to play with last gen players due to console limitations
-
I'm almost certain PS4, PS3, Xbox One, & Xbox 360 will all be logged in together. Xbox and playstation console users will play together. Correct me if I'm wrong.
-
Sounds a little suggestive of cross-platform, though I don't know how they would plan to handle that with a good chunk of the player base having exclusive content for a period of time.

Yes you are. They have heard people's concerns for a PC version, but will not have it in this game, possibly in the future Destiny titles. As for cross platform play, they meant the game will be the same no matter which platform, not all of us together.
