HandCannons have to move to Secondary.

Okay we've played the Destiny alpha and the Hand Cannons are fun. The problem is for a lot of us is we've been conditioned to halo gameplay. Pop the shields and finish with the Pistol. Repeat...repeat...repeat. That's one reason. And to be honest it's probably the main reason for the Hand Cannon frustration. The second reason is It doesn't feel like a primary when the rifles are extremely effective in that slot. It's natural to run out of ammo in the heat of the battle and out comes the secondary to save the day. Problem is the Secondary ammo is sometimes harder to find. Okay so how that works is currently with the Hand Cannon in its primary role you have about 50 ammo. An Auto Rifle can carry up to 360 to 600 depending on the beast you find. You'll burn through your Handcannon ammo fast... And you can't easily switch over to the other Primary guns. Out comes the secondary. What NO AMMO ???!!!.... Holy, I need to get out of here and get to my options menu. The secondary slot is the savior slot. Shotguns and sniper rifles.Tools meant to get up close or perform far away dirty work. Only given the nature of the bullet sponges blocking your way and what they drop it can get pretty tight on what you can accomplish. The HandCannon feels like it could be that middle man ready to do both jobs in distance and Up close engagements. It feels like a specialty item. Especially when you find a green variant with an option tree. I wanted use them during the Alpha, but the scout rifles and Autos are just better suited for their roles as the main work horse. Ultimately I never used them save to level one up by farming a position just to test it out and see what it's perk tree offered. I know I would have pulled that over the Shotgun if it had been in the secondary slot. Anyways just an observation. I noticed on the forums many share the same opinion. Please consider moving them over for the Beta to see if there is change in their usage.

  • I remember them explaining their reasoning for the hand cannon's position in one of the Bungie podcasts.

  • I agree hand cannons should be in the special (secondary) slot. And snipers should get moved to the heavy slot, so they don't get spammed.

I just realized how when a game starts and you have a hand cannon equipped your guardian will still hold it like a rifle during the little pre-game animation. Seriously it's better if it returns to the special slot. (and consequently the sniper should go back to the heavy slot maybe?)

  • The handcannon may have less ammo but deals more damage per shot than a assault rifle does per shot.

It is wierd to have a hand gun as a primary weapon at first glance! but second thoughts come on and you are a futuristic space western cowboy train robber just without a long range bolt action rifle. Pretty cool if you ask me!

      • I think it should stay primary but only take two head shot bullets to kill enemy play instead of 3

        • I tested the damage on the hand cannon vs an auto and its pretty balanced vs the Devil walker my auto did 55 damage to a leg per shot and my and cannon did 150 damage per shot Also in pvp the hand cannon takes out someones shield in 1 shot and 2 more shots to kill them so a total of 3 shots from my hand cannon killed a guardian and that was when I had my 81 damage hand cannon and once I got my 106 it only took 2 headshots Or I would shoot twice and then throw my hunting knife for the kill Hand Cannons are the truth

          • I don't think special weapons are meant to be thought of as secondary weapons. At least not in a traditional sense. In Destiny, all of your weapons should be able to fill the "primary" role in another game, they are just separated into three distinct groups. Sounds like the hand cannon should be tweaked, not necessarily moved. Though, perhaps moving it would have other benefits.

            • all the primary weapons had about the same number of clips. If you could hit them in the head, the hand cannons could kill just as many people per clip as the pulse rifles and the like, meaning that the ammo carrying capacity point is, in my opinion, moot. That said, I kind of agree that they should be special, as the hand cannons (the ones I found anyway) had a VERY long reload time for how fast you could empty a mag. They just felt like mid range snipers to me instead of proper primary weapons. I am, however, madly in love with fusion rifles and will probably always use them over anything else in that slot.

            • To me, it sounds like what you really want is to be able to use a handcannon and a scout rifle together...

I really had no issue with the hc. In fact, it was my primary the whole time. The impact stagger it caused made it easy to finish off most fallen, who werent one shotted in the head, with a knife stab. I'm guessing the reload speed can be increased with upgrade, and the e3 trailer showed that you can "fan" the hammer, which would be so epic. I would say, if anything, it needs a bit of a buff on the stronger enemies, especially with headshots. Like the shields should come down after a headshot or two from the hc.

Why not give people a fucking choice For chose what goes in their primary. Second and heavy!?? Stop trying to force your choice of what what guns go. I want my.primary to be a pistol. Second.a shotgun. Third a heavy machine gun.

Nerf impact on scout rifles, buff impact on hand cannons, keep both primary, problem solved.

                        • There is no such thing as a secondary weapon in Destiny, you're referring to special weapons. Special ammo drops less than primary ammo and more often than heavy ammo. As for the Handcannon, it is clearly a primary weapon, but needs some kind of buff. I would vote for increase damage and reload/fire rate, as well as holding more ammo overall. It's like a closer range scout rifle but the damage doesn't quite reflect that. Of course we also only saw low level (≤8) handcannons. Perhaps their upgrade path fixes these issues on rare/legendary/exotic handcannons.

Slot 2 IS not a secondary weapon it's a SPECIAL WEAPON. That's why this post is dumb, you forget that slot is for shotguns and snipers and Fusion guns those are POWERFUL GUNS. Most of the time they are BETTER than your slot1 weapon and they do just as much work. Moving that gun to the SPECIAL weapon slot does not change ANYTHING. What you should be posting about is BUFFS for the weapon instead......

                            • The Handcannon should remain as a primary weapon. It has one thing that the auto-rifle, pulse-rifle and scout-rifle don't have. Stopping power. I think it was labelled as Impact in the alpha. I believe that is the main reason that this weapon stands out more than others and why it should stay as a primary weapon. For a gun to stop an enemy in its tracks, buys you some time while you line up for that headshot, toss that grenade or ever give you enough time to regroup and strategize what your next move will be. The rifles' advantage over the handcannon is it range, ammo capacity and rate of fire but the handcannon more than makes up for that with its high damage, impact and how deadly accurate it is. The only time where I ran out of ammo using the handcannon was fighting the Devil Walker on Devil's Lair. But that was only for a short while until more Fallen spawned. And I'm sure thats why they spawned because that damned Devil Walker takes a helluva lotta rounds. Six bloody legs to take out!!! Focus fire is a must when fighting this! Overall, I'm pleased with the handcannon the way it is. Its reminiscent of the Halo CE pistol but with out the scope. That was my primary and the assault rifle was my secondary. I would very much like to keep the handcannon as my primary in Destiny.

                              • The handcannon would be horrible in the special slot, I'd have to have to lose out on using a fusion rifle just so I can use a hand cannon.

                                • I disagree - I have literally never run out of ammo while using my 'Red Bandit' handcannon - it's blindingly effective in Crucible and makes short work of Fallen and Hive. The only issue with handcannons at the moment is that they reload agonisingly slowly...

I think its fine as a primary, but they just need to make it an equivalent to the other primaries. I think if it has a little less recoil, and some more damage it would be fine. Maybe some more ammo too, since you only have 6 shots per reload. On the other hand i really want to see different kinds of hand guns. The hand cannon is nice but it didn't fit my needs. I would much rather have something with a magazine, slightly higher fire rate, much lower recoil, and lowered damage to balance things. Basically like a scout rifle with a smaller mag size, more damage, and a slower fire rate. Going back to the topic, i gotta agree with you. I wanted to use a hand gun so much, but it seemed pointless to replace your primary with it when you could just use the scout rifle.

                                  • This isn't halo. It's good where it is. Only problem I really see I'm pvp sniper needs some recoil, full auto rifle might need a small buff.
