My mom and I are trying to restore her '61 MGA this summer, and it usually runs, but it's been having some issues. We think some debris/bad gas in the tank clogged the carburetor, and I'm wondering how we can fix it.
Is it possible to clean the system without disassembly, or does it need a major operation?

Depends. It could be just a minor idle screw adjustment or could be a stuck float. Best thing would be to rebuild the carb if you are really restoring it. Eliminate any and all problems by just making sure everything is working the way it should. But just start with some carb cleaner and go deeper from there if that doesn't help.
