Mine is rain, hands down. Thunder is absolutely fine as well, especially with strong winds in the storm. It's currently raining now too, which is nice. I know someone who has a really specific one: The hum of a jumbo jet's cabin.
What brought this thread on was the other day at 4:36 am there were birds chirping outside my window. I thought to myself, "I'm all for ambient noise, but I can't stand birds chirping at this hour. I much prefer rain." Only moments later did the birds stop and it began to rain. The only conclusion to this is that I'm either a self-aware human in the Matrix or the Avatar.
Random question: Do you have a specific song you like to listen to when it rains or when you can hear any other ambient noise? I like the song Roxas from Kingdom Hearts II. It's very peaceful.

The sound of Swedish students screaming in the middle of the night is pretty awesome. Rain is nice too. I don't mind the sound of thunder but I don't like thunder because I have to unplug my computer for safety reasons when there's lightning nearby.

I listen to rainymood all the time 4 muh chillin' out, maxin' and relaxin' all cool. Also, lawn mowers in the distance.
-
I can't really decide. Rain, thunder, ocean waves, animal sounds and fireplaces are all awesome in their own way.

This song melds perfectly with your link, OP.

I like to listen to Thunder, Lightning, and Rain. Luckily I live in a somewhat wet climate, so I get to do this often.

Edited by Rhynerd: 5/17/2014 6:57:53 PMI'd say the hierarchy is 1. Owls Hooting 2. Rain 3. Birds Chirping ... Somewhere very close to the bottom: That screecher bird my neighbors used to have. EDIT: embedded is my answer to the random question.

Rain, fire and a few other noises that I enjoy listening to on a normal day

Rain Master Race

Thunder, bird sounds, wind.
-
For me it is definitely the wind and faint dripping of water in a cave or cavern.

This, all of this. When I hear it I get all nostalgic and shit. The ocean is my happy place.

The sound of Gopher's voice

Rain, no matter if it's a soft drizzle or a thunderstorm

For real life ambient noise, it depends on the season for me. In the spring, I love the sound of the rain, especially on a metal roof. It's very relaxing to me. I don't like it as much at work because it just makes me want to sit around and do very little other than enjoy it, but at home when I can sit on the couch on a rainy day, that's perfect spring to me. In the summer, it's waves crashing on the beach. Summer is vacation time, and I usually try to make it to the beach at least once. It brings back childhood memories, and it's a sound that means no stress to me. No work, no obligations, and I can do whatever I feel like doing whenever I feel like doing it. In the fall, it's a tie rustling leaves and the snaps and pops of a bonfire. I live in rural PA, surrounded by deciduous trees, and as the leaves change colors and dry up and it gets windy, I'll hear a lot of that here. It's also a popular time for people to have a bonfire or campfire and hang out together. If it's more of a cooking fire, we'll make mountain pies (I think they're also called pudgy pies or something like that in other places) and I know how to make the best pizza mountain pies ever! In the winter, it's near silence. When it snows in the woods at my parents' house, where I grew up, you can hear almost nothing. Then it gets disturbed by the movements of a larger animal and you hear snow crunching, or you hear branches move and snow fall as squirrels jump around trees. It's one of the most peaceful things I've ever seen or heard.

Then you might like this song....

Rain.

When I hear the meat frizzling while cooking it puts me into a deep state of concentration and everything around me blurrs out except the frying pan with the meat. Yes - I get a flow from cooking. Also the soothing voice of my latin tutor calms me down to the point of falling asleep.

Heavy wind and rain. A little thunder never hurt either.
