So, what did people see in Titanfall?

Why was it so hyped? What did it have to offer? I promised to make this thread at about this time in my last thread on this game. The alleged "savior" of the Xbox One, which managed to lead the X1 to outsell the PS4 in March, the month it released.
Oh wait. It didn't.
Now that the game is effectively dead and no one on these forums is militantly defending the game anymore, let's discuss what made the game even seem appealing. What did you people see in this game? I've said it many times and I'll say it again. Bungie.net seemed out of character when the forums sang the greatness of Titanfall. Clearly everyone thought the game looked like a CoD ripoff, right? For CoD games and wannabee CoD games like Homefront, usually the forums are eager to sing the horrors of the game. Thread after thread of "lolcod is shit" and "Children's Online Daycare". Yet Titanfall, which not only looked like CoD, was even made by the people who make CoD, yet a comment saying "this looks like CoD" was strictly forbidden and condemned as childish behavior. Perhaps the forum has grown up, but the fact is that the same people who defended Titanfall absolutely despise Halo 4 for being like Call of Duty. But back to the main point. What did Titanfall offer that the game you supposedly despise, CoD, did not? Again, in your hypocrisy, did you allow your most hated company, EA, to fool you? Let's discuss.
Expect a similar thread concerning Destiny in November.
It's not the COD part. It's the mechs. If Respawn had added a ton of Mech options and customizations it would have gone a long way. Just three to choose from and enclosing them is a real shame. Mech gaming needs open environments. You can shove them into closed spaces and it works also, but mechs are like tanks and tank battle are fun when you got a lot of room to maneuver. TitanFall wasn't about COD for me atleast. I just hoped it would inspire Fromsoft to step up their Armored Core Series as well as other studios to create giant robot goodness.
