#CancelColbert is trending on Twitter!

So last night, Stephan Colbert did a segment on the Washington Redskins and the controversy surrounding their name. You can see the segment in its context, here. Now, the problems began near as I can tell with a Tweet from the @ColbertReport that mentioned a portion of the sgement where Colbert parodied the owner of the Redskin's attempt to set up a foundation called the Washington Redskin's Original American's Foundation with setting up a foundation for "Ding Dong Ching Chong", a stereotypical Asian character. With everything in context, its funny. Without it though, we get #CancelColbert. Sorry if this isn't the most concise summary, but it happened so fast to get a good grasp of the situation. Frankly, I understand the intent of what the trend is hoping to do, but I can't help but feel how ultimately pointless it is. Colbert isn't going to get fired and him getting fired won't be a win against racism. Colbert's a comedian, not a Grand Imperial Wiazrd in the Ku Klux Klan. But at this point it is just going to have to ride itself out. Fox News contributor Michelle Malkin, who is Asian, has weighed in on the issue and I expect MSNBC to either cover the story and condemn Colbert or do damage control with other liberal media sources. How does anyone think this is going to pan out?
