Impulse Bought an Xbox One, here's my tale.

Went out and impulse purchased an xb1 today. Started it up, excited by the rush of an impulse buy, got to the dash after an update and signed in. And then the excitement died down. I went to download KI, but after that it started going down hill. I got a party invite, but couldn't figure out how to find it after missing the initial invite. So I had to go to friends, past the feed into friends, click my friend and join his party. And then I had to enable party chat to start talking. Of course following that, his voice was coming through my tv and I was talking through kinect. I had to unplug and replug the headset to get talking. But hey! Its working! Onto KI, ran great played fun despite getting whooped even though we both were on the free version and running Sadira. Until we both disconnected. At which point, regret was setting in. I went back to the marketplace to look at the downloadable titles, but couldn't find an 'all games' section and bing searching Strider brought up results for Tomb Raider? At this point I was frustrated, and went to download Crunchyroll only to discover there is bo xb1 crunchyroll app. How am I supposed to watch my animu dammit. No fault to MS though. Whatever, I have both a ps360 for that, no worry. I went to start Netflix after a short DL. Started up Freaks n Geeks, and the screen was really dark and volume was really low. Normally, my TV is set to 30 volume, I had to turn it to 60 to hear it regularly. Not sure if this is the app or the xb1 or what. At this point, I was through and just went back to playing gtav on my 360. Now having used all 3 consoles and owning two/three, In terms of OS functionality: Wii U > PS4 > XB1 (ps4 is the only one to have Crunchyroll) Tl;dr I had a horrible experience with my xb1 today and I'm regretting this purchase. Until now. I'm selling it for $540 ( with BF4!) and already found a buyer. I bought it for $525 (target employee discount son) and got a $50 gift card as well, so I'm making a $60 profit. So everything turned out for the better. Thank you MS, paid for my copy of titanfall

    • One of the dumbest posts I've seen today, I'll give it that. Basically what the original post is that the guy couldn't operate the Xbox One correctly, got pissed, and sold it. Reminds me of an angry caveman trying to start a fire but he can't so he just gets mad and throws the sticks away and remains cold.

      • So to summarize... You made an impulse buy and refused to learn how the thing actually worked and want us to believe you sold it in frustration. Got it.

        • This was really stupid. It sounds like you got a little frustrated and didn't bother READING about how to use he product you just bought. Learn about it before you freakin sell it!

            • Why do people act like a console is a cheap purchase? You don't just buy these things willy nilly, dammit!

            • Only critique I will give you is about party chat. Also, I think if you are in a party, then the volume on games/ apps you are running gets lowered substantially, something I hope they will fix. Everything else is because you didn't feel like spending 10 minutes to learn how to use it.

So basically you didn't bother to learn how to use the new interface, didn't stop to research what games and apps are available on a brand new console, didn't buy any games for it, and are mad at the console because of your shortcomings? Yeah, stop whining. Your disappointment is not The XOne's fault.

Yeah, I used to be like you, there have been several times I have seen a PS4 or Wii U in stores and almost bought it just because I have the money to, but you just need to have a little self control. I find that if I sit on it for a good day or two, I can figure out if I really want it or not. Been trying to wait to get a Wii U once it gets more games, but there have been so many times where I just thought about buying it sooner. Having a fully capable PC that outperforms both next gen consoles, there is absolutely no reason to get either since both don't have enough games to justify the purchase. I'm going to wait until either the Wii U or the PS4 gets at least 10 good exclusives.

                • That's the problem with impulse buys that you don't need or frankly even want. You should have waited for a game that excited you. Wait for Titanfall or Halo or Below or something, so that when you start it up, you are having fun. Instead of searching for that fun and struggling to find it. Back when I got a PS3, the game I got it for got pushed back a year. It gathered dust and was a piece of crap in my eyes until I got my game.

                    • And this is the precise reason why Microsoft is in a hurry to release an update to their Party system. The 360 has the best mean of contacting your bros and starting a party. It's easy with the pop up window and pressing X to auto start a party and send an invite. But now Xbox One is taking us back to the first Xbox. Relying on the features in-game to get parties started. The Snap feature is essentially the pop up window but you can't access your friends there. Instead you have to go to a friends app or use the invite feature which is still less convenient. Also, no auto party AND you need to Turn On party chat in order to speak. Pile all of that on top of having to deselect Kinect in settings as it is default and you have a pain to start and generally unfriendly user experience. They'd better get their butts into gear and fix this with common sense solutions similar or better than what's found in the 360 or they will lose both new customers and some of their dedicated consumer base.

                    • That was a pretty stupid move imo, buying a game console is a long term investment its only going to get better just look at the 360 now and compare it back to when it was just first released. There are thousands of games out now, almost everything has been improved on, and they have released a ton of new features and apps. There is a lot of room for improvement and possibilities for the X1. You only used the product for a day when there many other things to learn and try out on it.

                    • Hmm, someone did not properly set up their console. I understand people wanting to pick up and play as soon as they open the box....but a little bit of patience/reading/customization would have helped you out a lot. Also, the party chat friends list debacle is being addressed in the early March dashboard update. I think I can see why you weren't happy though, you impulse bought, which means you are probably a person who likes instant gratification and if you don't get it, you are displeased. You need to put more thought into your purchases, and then put more time into trying things out before you write them off completely.

                      • Wow did you watch the how to video? Did you try the easy as shit voice commands? Did you here about the update that is less than 2 weeks away to fix a party issue that is well documented on every site including this one? I have a hard time believing you bought something for $500 and only gave it what sounds like an hour to try it out. Also if you scroll right on the home screen directly over the bing input bar is a huge tile that says GAMES. Not sure how you didn't see that.
