So my family is looking to get a WiiU...
Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze looks freaking amazing, so my Family and I are trying to acquire ourselves a WiiU to play this and other titles that will be coming out on the WiiU in the future. The 8GB WiiU's look really cheap on Amazon / Ebay / whatever, but we're concerned that perhaps because these are an older version of the WiiU, they might be more likely to have defects and such. Are there any WiiU owners out there who would be knowledgeable about such things?

4 RepliesI don't argue losing battles on the internet, but right now the girls are jumping around playing web vids (spongebob songs) on the tv/surround sound with the WiiU. We're all off on winter break and irritated as can be that Donkey Kong isnt out til next week. They just finished Mario. We have loved the WiiU the whole time. Oh wait... which great software am I missing right now? Hate me, I can take it. For giggles I looked at what used last gen consoles were going for this morning to maybe grab something... and I giggled.

Edited by Derp: 2/14/2014 11:30:50 PMI don't own a Wii U and i've never purchased a console second hand, but i know that there's absolutely nothing wrong with purchasing a console from Ebay or any site like that. Just MAKE SURE you check the seller's feedback history from other customers, etc... It is extremely rare that you'd receive a defected one (unless the seller says it's defected). But just in case, always check the feedback history of the seller. Also what do you mean by older versions? You mean like an older model? The Wii Us you are looking at are simply 8 GB. There are also 32 GB ones. It's not an older model, just a different size. You won't find any defects, trust me.

As far as I know, there never were any huge, wide-spread issues with the Wii U. Only the issue of it shutting off during the initial update, which I don't think is a problem anymore. I wouldn't worry about it being an older version. However, I would recommend getting one with a bigger hard-drive, because 8GB does not go very far.
