The News Forum: Let us use it.

Today I found my way onto the News Forum. It was disappointing to see the piles of archived threads, but it got me thinking. Why don't we, the community, have the ability to post threads in the News Forum during these uneventful times? There's an obvious answer to this. As individuals, members of the community are not to be trusted with such a privilege. If any Community Joe felt that their game night or article would be successful they would head over to the News Forum and post it. If such a privilege was given to the users, I presume the News forum would turn into some odd combination of the Gallery, Classifieds and Flood forum. This outcome would not be favorable. Bungie tackled a similar issue back in September of 2010. The issue being: How do we begin to place community made content (Forged Maps) into our matchmaking playlists effectively? How can we be assured that the content is of a good standard without having to be completely integrated in the process of sifting and testing hundreds of maps? The answer was to create The Community Cartographers, A group of forge community leaders. Their access to these communities streamlined the process and produced diverse and high quality maps for all of us to enjoy. What I am proposing is a Community Cartographers of sorts. Lets have members of For Carnage Apply Within, Community Projects, The Community Carnage, Community Joes and other predominant Private Chapters come together to make News. Lets use the News Forum as The Community Comm Chatter. Threads, Articles, Game Nights and anything else would be handed to members of this group for evaluation and editing. It then would be passed to those who would be able to post such threads in the News Forum. It's still an idea in it's infancy, but what do you think?

Another idea would be to "Subscribe" to a group news feed, even though you may not be a member of that group. So if I "Subscribed" to the news feed of HFCS (for example), every time another news item popped up, I would get a notification. And if you weren't interested in a group anymore, you could simply un-subscribe from that feed. That way, you can see everything from groups that you like, while ALSO being able to search for groups and filter content based on the group. Search by >Group Tag (member generated IE: Interview, discussion, gamenights, game specific etc) >Creation Date >Group activity >Member Count >Only closed groups >Only open groups [Edited on 08.27.2012 7:49 PM PDT]
