The Justice System in the United States of America Makes Me Want To Vomit

I just heard about this today, and I'm literally in complete and utter disgust. This kid kill 4 people and receiving absolutely no punishment for it!? HE MURDERED 4 PEOPLE AND HE'S NOT GOING TO JAIL.....instead he is going to rehab for 2 years. I honestly can't believe this is real. The kid should be serving a MINIMUM of 10 years in the pin.

  • If a black person did this, they'd get a triple life sentence.

He should be put in adult jail, and get sentenced for the crime of killing 4 people I don't see why people are ok with it, "because of his age". He still killed 4 freaking people. His age shouldn't make it ok for someone to commit crimes and get a severely lessoned sentence. Age is just a number. Kid to parents: "Treat me like an adult even though I am 14!" Kid to judge: "I'm only 14 don't treat me like an adult and give me a severely lessened sentence."

Jail should be for people who can not be integrated back into society. This boy needs counseling and therapy, paid for on his parents dime, to make him a decent human being since his parents did not.

Great job of teaching the kid a lesson. From what we know he has never gotten punished for anything and what happens when he does something major like this? That's right he gets off the hock just like the last times. So what exactly did this going to teach him? That the next time he kills 4 people due to his stupidly he's going to get another probation because his parents have money and there's a chance they payed people off? He should have received the jail time like the people without money would have. The only thing this did is show him that he can get away with something because his parents have money. Really. If a black or a middle class-below person did the same thing we know they would have gotten the 10 years. The only reason why this self entitled asshole didn't is because he has access to money. Here's another great thing about this. Lets say you have somebody that grew up in a gang related area so they grew up with violence. One day this person gets into a simple conflict, but he kills the person because of it. So because of the area and lifestyle he grew up with that effected his thinking. So would he get off of deathrow or a life sentience for it? No he wouldn't because he doesn't have money.

Here's why I'm ok with the probation - He's a minor. If sentenced to jail, he'd go to a juvenile detention center, and be tossed when he turns 18. By giving him 10 years probation, this will follow him well into his young adult life, making it difficult to get a job, rent an apartment, etc. While I'd certainly like to see him go to jail, this sentence does make more sense considering his age. The better option would to have tried him as an adult from the get-go.

        • 10 years probation, and if he violates it in anyway, immediate 10 years of incarceration. I was of the mind to throw him in jail, but this is actually a better service to all. Also, youre late, this thread has already been posted retard.

          • The problem with this is that affluenza is a genuine thing; but not punishing him isn't exactly fighting it. However, we can't claim to judge the emotional reaction he's had to this, and rehabilitation is infinitely more important than punishment. The rehab sentence is just, and he should be on probation for a minimum of five years following.

            • Look up the twinky and matrix defenses. They are kinda related. Sorta... Anyways, this goes to show why the system is broken. If you have money, you can dodge nearly any crime. Yet if you are poor... Let's just say if he were poor and black that trial would have gone VERY differently.

            • I'm telling you man, if a middle class black guy did this he'd be sentenced to life in prison.

              • Usually I would agree. But he is just a kid and it was an accident. He can be integrated back into society and I'm sure he feels horrible. I agree he should get a prison time and a lot more rehab. But for once I think execution is out of question here.

                • Well did he kill them on purpose? I don't see why he should go to jail for manslaughter, at his age, especially with all the psychological trauma that likely came with the event. He wouldn't be able to handle jail, he's probably already paying for what he did by just being alive. There's no need to stick him in a metal box with people who actually meant to kill their victims and traumatize him even more.

                  • His defense was that he gets away with everything all the time. So the solution to that is to...not punish him?

That wasn't his defense, it was the judge's ruling. And the fine is like $500k per year, nor including the lawsuits they'll face from the families of the four he killed. Plus probation. This kid's life is essentially ruined. He'll never recover from the punishment.

                        • 10 years in jail for essentially a mistake isn't worth it. A few years hard labour needed though.

                        • This is why I hate lawyers, I think sometimes they make things worse. Yes I know its their job but when stuff like this happens, it makes me question if lawyers cared about the law. I'm sure the family can ask for an appeal.
