When I am over at my friends house will i be able to pick up a controller and play with them right there? If my girlfriend wants to come over and play destiny with me will she be able to? I think it would be a great shame if you weren't able to. You could use a system like Borderlands has done and make the second player join in the current story of the first player, or, just let them play on a coop mission or twelve, all the while getting the loot, xp, and money of the adventure. Not to mention a local multiplayer competitive mode option like most first person shooters have. I honestly hope that Bungie decides to implement some kind of local coop, even if it is only competitive.

if you are referring to splitscreen play, watch the video in the article on the Game Informer website. Lars Bakken, the lead designer of Halo 3's and Destiny's competitive multiplayer, tells that they can't talk about that now. I linked you the video because it is awesome and worth the watch.
