There is no saving Nintendo...

There are several vociferous members on here who kept lambasting me over my criticisms of Nintendo. They were the ones who continuously shouted to the heavens about how once Mario and Zelda got another game off of the ground, that the Wii U would come storming back. They called me an idiot, and how I have no idea what I'm talking about when I said that even Gamers in Japan were getting tired of Nintendo's 20 year-old rehashes... I am twice proven a Prophet. I say twice, because I also posted a story about how the Wind-waker (or whatever Zelda game) rehash wouldn't lift sales for the Wii U, and I was right. I've said repeatedly that though a new Mario game wouldn't lift sales except for an embarrassingly small amount, it would still be sad to see Nintendo complete it's fall. We got one step closer to that sadness. Don't get me wrong. I do not want to see Nintendo fail, but their ego is getting too large. their arrogance to thick to even allow them to see that their refusal to stay competitive is destroying their company. The truth is that if it weren't for the 3DS, Nintendo would be bankrupt already. Still, even the 3DS cannot keep Nintendo operating in the black, and it's only a matter of time before they fold. They're so far in the red that it's pathetic, and they higher-ups at Nintendo refuse to see it, and that's the really sad thing about this.

Nintendo is doing fine as a whole. All that Wii and DS money alone can carry them through multiple failures.

  • What are you talking about? Nintendo is doing fine. Just because a game company is lacking in sales. doesn't mean it is failing.

  • Hmm. Their console sales for the Wii U are awful, but they aren't near going bankrupt. That company has more than a sizable wallet to allow for some short term bleeding. Rebranded marketing and an increased push for more first party titles, combined with an approach toward Indie development would likely help the console. Super Smash Bros is likely going to drive sales upward this spring (supposed launch time) and we'll see how many titles they can have prepped for next winter. While they need to have changes internally that promote a better realization of where the market is heading, they can afford to bleed some money in the short term. I'd expect some alterations especially if they keep down this path and hopefully they won't necessarily have to leave the hardware space. It may be a possibility however and even if that occurs, Nintendo is like Disney. Their characters are incredibly loved, well known, and reputable for their quality. They can find a home on all consoles and that would drive Nintendo sales through the roof if that day ever comes.

  • Are people forgetting about the DS? The WiiU isn't the only thing Nintendo sells.

      • It really is a shame to see them like this. Nintendo was my childhood. But now, all the creativity, all the enjoyment has just gone. Games like Mario Galaxy and consoles like the Wii and (3)DS oozed creativity. But now? It's just gone.

        • The worst that will ever happen is that they get kicked out of the hardware market and that would still take several more years of detrimental sales. If anything it might inspire a new Nintendo console sooner. Nintendo will always continue to be in games though. Even if they won't make it for a system of their own there's still a strong audience for it. Worst case again is that they have to sell and they would be more likely to sell their entire business and maintain the Nintendo brand just under new administration (Their hardware division would still be closed or repurposed). Likely buyers would include Microsoft (giving them the foothold in Japan they've been looking for) and EA (Nintendo's catalog of titles would strengthen their position in the industry even more than it already is). They have the money to participate in that kind of purchase and the motive to pursue it. [Note: This is based on the players currently participating heavily in the market. An outside factor (such as other tech company's including Apple or Google) may choose to enter the market in this manner.] A merger isn't out of the question either. Capcom and Sega would be adequate partners for them in terms of financials as well as IPs. Long story short: In the worst case, Nintendo as we know it may no longer exist but the brand and games will continue to live on.

Nintendo is so damn stubborn. they dont even support (not even accept) the competitive side of their one game that can draw crowds...Super Smash Bros. Not saying that is detrimental to their business...but imagine what they could do with that. Also, Nintendo is far from needing to be saved. We, the Nintendo community, are fine with getting different iterations of the franchise we love. You guys complain but we know what we're getting. Which is better than hoping the next Halo or Mass Effect will be good. Better than wondering if DICE will bring justice to the new Battlefront. Sure as hell better than waiting for Destiny to come out too haha.

                  • The new Super Smash Brothers and Bayonetta 2, which is a Wii U Exclusive so there's some betting on that taking place most likely, will be two things they might be counting on a tad. Honestly though I agree, they can't bet on Mario and Zelda to continue to sell year after year. It's embarrassing and pathetic how much they're still counting on them to ride the wave of success.

The games are doing well, the sales of consoles are breaking records (citation obviously needed) and nobody seems to care about the fact that Mario has been alive longer than they have. Rinse and repeat the facts Ad Infinitum.
