Mass Effect 4.

Hey guys, I've been a huge fan of the mass effect series since stepping foot on Eden Prime. It's the choices you get and the story telling that got me hooked. I'm going to get hate for saying this but I even enjoyed the third game... Including the ending.. Like a lot. Anyway, my question for you guys is this. What are you looking for in mass effect 4? What would be your Dream game? I have heard the recent and past tweets that have been going around and so far so good. IMO we must stay away from prequel territory. We must have something new and fresh but still something that we all can recognise. What are your thoughts? No hate on anyone's opinion please.

Mass Effect 4 is going to fail for one fundamental reason: They cannot top Mass Effect 1-3. It's not a matter of skill, but simply, you already saved the entire galaxy. You don't get more of an epic journey than that. What ever they do, they cannot top it. Anything they come up with will seem fairly insignificant given that you just saved the galaxy in the last game.

  • I'm really hoping it has a human protagonist I do like all the other species but I just like playing as humans in all video games.

*sigh* It's inevitable that a ME4 will roll around sooner or later, even though I would absolutely hate them to do so. Personally I think that there shouldn't be a 4th one, Bioware has other moneymakers as well as a possible emergency ME "erotica" lineup in case os sudden bankruptcy.

If it's gonna be a sequel, I'd like to see the aftermath of the Reaper War. (Preferably Destroy being the canon ending of 3) Not the immediate aftermath, but more like 50 years. The galaxy is still rebuilding. The Citadel Council doesn't have the power it used to have. There are constant conflicts between the Terminus Systems and Council Space. The various species are all vying for power. Maybe the Batarians are making a comeback, or maybe the Krogan are getting out of line. Galactic society is crumbling. That's the kind of setting I want to see. As for the story/plot/character, with this kind of setting anything could work. You could be a privateer or mercenary, thriving in this new environment where almost anything goes. You could be a Spectre, working for the Council to restore order in the galaxy, and you could accomplish that in multiple ways. There's a lot of possibilities. One thing is for sure. I don't want the Reapers to be a threat. That's over and done with. No Shepard either.

      • AU. No Reapers, no extinction cycles, only Protheans (Who disappeared for unexplained reasons prior to the game, and who did actually create the Citadel/Mass Relays this time). The universe would have the exact same history as the first, up until the Normandy mission to Eden Prime. Obviously, as there was no Sovereign - there would be no attack at all. The Beacon would just contain some other shit - and Shepard would become a Spectre the way the mission was supposed to go. But Shepard wouldn't be the focus of this story at all. Aside from maybe a few cameo appearances or background news reels he wouldn't appear at all. You would play as a completely different character - one that could be any species. Each species would have a different selection of classes and would have some unique backgrounds to chose from (Which race you chose would also have an effect on civillian attitudes towards you, a Council race would be more trustworthy while a Quarian or Krogan would be treated with suspicion. No matter what character you chose - you would arrive on the Citadel at the beginning of the game with only your Pistol and a small sum of credits. From here on out - it's kinda Skyrim esque. The Citadel would be massively explorable. You would have a main quest - but the approach to the end would be dependant on whichever faction(s) you ally with. A player who joins C-SEC would have a very different path to a SPECTRE or a Cerberus operative. Familiar faces would return - but their lives would be vastly different without Shepard. For example, Garrus would show up as an ally if you join C-SEC, Saren would be an "ally" if you were a Spectre, Tali would be met on her pilgrimage, where you would have the option to help her or ignore her. New faces would also appear - and allies would be optional - you wouldn't have to recruit them all and you would be at no disadvantage for doing so. Limiting the game to the Citadel may seem disappointing to some, But I'd enjoy it more. The environments we've seen in the trilogy were diverse - and we'd barley scratched the surface. You could do so much, from Omega-esque slums to restricted maintenance areas. From lofty Presidium apartments to Industrial zones. Each would be populated by unique characters - who would offer you sidequests (Which would offer the story content of ME1 but without the boring Mako and copy/paste buildings. TL;DR: My ME4 would be very different from the rest of the series.

      • Actually if you watch the end, it will hint at a new story. Just for those who doubt a ME4

        • There's a few main things I'd like to see. -I want it to take place after the third game, I don't want a prequel. -I want race customization. -I want a simpler story (as Blowdrum said). I liked the first game for the feeling of chasing a rogue Spectre across the galaxy, piecing clues together, and trying to bring him to justice. -I want my squadmates to feel useful and not sit in my ship the entire game. Mass Effect 2's suicide mission is a good example of how to have all your squadmates contribute to a mission, without mucking up the gameplay of a three-person squad. -I want more stuff like in the Citadel DLC. That one was awesome.

          • I hope the multiplayer is even better. I play the ME3 multiplayer since it's released and love it. I've been playing it even more than Halo multiplayer which is crazy. I'm sure the story mode will be great and I look forward tot hat as well since thats why I bought Mass Effect back in 2007 for but after I've done the campaign a few times I can continue to enjoy Mass effect with friends now that it has a fun multiplayer.

            • I'd also like to stay away from prequels. Anything they do with a prequel story would feel insignificant next to the Reaper threat. I'd like to have actual space exploration, as in piloting your own ship around the galaxy. I'd also like to be able to play as a different species. Humans are nice and all, but after 10000000000000000 games about humans I'd kind of like something different. Turian Spectre? Krogan pirate leader? Full AI Geth platform? Awesome. I'd like for it to have an emotional story that I'd feel connected to. I don't want Michael Bay: The Video Game... ME3 bore a strong resemblance to Michael Bay: The Video Game at certain points. I want it to have characters who deserve to be in the story, unlike that Alliance reporter bitch and Vega. Vega was so -blam!-ing boring. It's like, hey I'm a spanish dude on steroids.... am I interesting yet? I want it to return to the ME1 roots of a mystery-scifi game, with a blend of RPG mechanics. I want a greater emphasis on vehicles. It's the goddamn future, give us some cool toys to explore planets. I want greater consequences when I choose certain dialogue options and morality choices. Oh shit, I just punched the Turian ambassador in the crotch for being a giant ass. There better be appropriate consequences. With the next-gen consoles released/preparing for release, I want greater emphasis on squad mechanics. Say what you want about the Kinect, but the squad orders using voice commands looked super cool. I wanna be able to do that and maybe a bit more in ME4. I want a storyline that won't fuck me over in the end.

              • Better planet map variance, when I want to drive around in Mako, I don't want to see a plain map that look like it was made in 10 minutes using basic terrain tools. I'd much rather have very unique environments and maps for each planets and to be able to explore planets rather than the atrocity in ME2

                • Wasn't there something about it taking place in a new Universe/Galaxy? Remember in ME3, in a random conversation with EDI on the Normandy. She talks about how the laws and things like 1+1 could =3 and that kind of stuff. If they did this, then they could introduce a whole new cluster of Races etc.

                  • I want complete character customization. I want to pick not only my gender and class but species too. And more of 2's big choices. And actual benefits from playing as a renegade.

                    • Would like the rpg elements & exploring if ME1. The combat of ME2 & ME3. Choice of origin like Dragon Age Origins. The species...not sure. In DA3 you can be human, elf, dwarf, & quanari(?) so can't really rule that out.

I'm kinda tired of these grandiose, power fantasy stories that BioWare seems to be a fan of. I want a smaller, more personal story. Perhaps a C-Sec officer who uncovers a conspiracy, or something like that. A story that has not only the potential for an unpredictable gripping story, but also opportunities for characters other than the protagonist to receive a solid amount of development.

                          • I would love if it went back to being more of an RPG like ME1. But even more so. ME3 was practicallt a TPS. But what I really want is Custom race for campaign, which was vaguely introduced in the ME3 multilayer. Speaking of which, massive expansions on the multiplayer too.

                          • I think it would be neat if it was somehow close enough to the original trilogy, that the decisions you made in the previous games still play a part.
