You are the universe
Perhaps you've thought about the fact that everything in our solarsystem is basicly stardust. Even you. You are a piece of stardust walking around on a ball of stardust. But our sun is part of the galaxy hence you are too.
If you let your imagination grasp the concept of you being one with everything you'll start seeing that consciousness is also a part of the universe. Consciousness is not a biproduct of biology no more than leaves are biproducts of the tree.
Consciousness permeates creation and it is manifested in, but not limited to, biology.

Not that you aren't far off though; you just need to know on the same level as you know you exist (the emphasis on the feeling of existence itself and not the 'you' 'doing' the existing), rather than simply believe it on an intellectual level because someone else told you and it makes kinda sense.
