So, I decided to put what I learned in Microbiology to work today.

Pardon the lens and blur. My phone wasn't working very well when I took this picture. Today, my dad and I made beer. We ended up getting the plastic keg from my uncle, who used the kit once, and then gave the beer to his buds. So, we ended up buying everything and making it from scratch. The only problem we had was with the wort, since we both messed up on that part, but ultimately, third time's the charm, and we got it down correctly. I'm looking forward to a taste test in 2 weeks. If this is a success, my dad and I were planning on making wine from scratch since the grapes in our garden are ripened right now. What practical skills do you put to use that you learned in school? For me, beer-making, wine-making, welding, and crafting stuff out of wood.

  • From High School? I had a very hands-on electronic circuits class my senior year, and I've used the things I learned in that class to fix some things since then. Most of the classes I've had since High School that I consider useful have really only been useful for other classes so far. It's actually a good thing that a lot of that stuff hasn't come up in day to day life yet since my major's Nuclear Engineering (things have gone horribly wrong if I need to worry about that stuff daily before I'm employed).
