Pardon the lens and blur. My phone wasn't working very well when I took this picture.
Today, my dad and I made beer. We ended up getting the plastic keg from my uncle, who used the kit once, and then gave the beer to his buds. So, we ended up buying everything and making it from scratch. The only problem we had was with the wort, since we both messed up on that part, but ultimately, third time's the charm, and we got it down correctly.
I'm looking forward to a taste test in 2 weeks. If this is a success, my dad and I were planning on making wine from scratch since the grapes in our garden are ripened right now.
What practical skills do you put to use that you learned in school? For me, beer-making, wine-making, welding, and crafting stuff out of wood.

From High School? I had a very hands-on electronic circuits class my senior year, and I've used the things I learned in that class to fix some things since then. Most of the classes I've had since High School that I consider useful have really only been useful for other classes so far. It's actually a good thing that a lot of that stuff hasn't come up in day to day life yet since my major's Nuclear Engineering (things have gone horribly wrong if I need to worry about that stuff daily before I'm employed).

Wouldn't this be Chemistry?
So, I decided to put what I learned in Microbiology to work today.
You stood in front of a mirror naked and realized what that awkward pimple is just below your belly button?

My keen interest in biology and animal books at the school library saved me from getting killed by a coneshell at the beach.

Edited by Jaaake AU: 11/4/2013 1:03:44 PMAbsolutely nothing I have learned from school helps me on a day to day basis. My spelling, grammar and formatting skills are largely thanks to this forum. Camping and driving skills from my dad. Cooking from my mother. I guess a case could be made for photography... but even then, I had an idea about what I was doing before I could explain it.

Everything from school is used in some way hard to answer.

Thats cool. I don't learn anything fun or practical in school unfortunately. We have no mechanic shop, no wood shop, no home ec (used to be mandatory to take atleast once) or any classes that teach an actual skill. My courses suck.

Giving nerds wedgees. Still.

I like to confuse people with the malarkey we talk about in philosophy. But that's about it.

Many of the skills used have adapted to making more logic choices, or speaking in a more intelligent fashion. *sips beer*, hmmm not bad at all good bean.

Cool.

Yea unless I have a lab to look at DNA, I ain't doing anything from my school class

Considering I took basic classes in high school, there really isn't anything worth noting. Interesting story, though.
