Been thinking about mortality

Quite frankly, the fact that I am eventually going to die terrifies me. Rather stupid fear, as I am but a teenager, but a fear nonetheless. Who knows, I might die of old age in 80 years, or get splattered across the road tomorrow by a car. Just wondering what your inevitably flippant feelings on the subject are, as I've been contemplating it for a good bit now.

  • Death doesn't scare me. It's the possibility of a boring afterlife that causes me worry.

  • The way I see it, it's inevitable, and there's nothing I can to stop it, so there's no point in worrying about it. I used to be terrified of death, just for the sake of dying. Now, I'm terrified of dying because I'm coming to the point in my life where people are starting to depend on me to get by.

  • Game over man!!! Game over!!!!! but my philosophy is thus " live your life so you don't regret yesterday but also so you don't fear tomorrow"

I figure I just need to live long enough for my brain to be transferred into a computer. Nonetheless, one thing that makes me sad is knowing I won't see all the awesome stuff the human race will have in a few thousand years.

BEGINNING TRANSMISSION: (Low melodious hum.) Dear human, these fears are natural to your species. Regrettably I cannot feel such emotion, but oh how I envy you. To fear death is one thing, but to fear life is another. Don't let the fear keep you from living your life. It will come to all of us eventually, even I won't last forever. With one minute towards the future, I do not see it as another chance to seal my fate; but as another chance to experience something new. Stay strong, believe. ENDING TRANSMISSION:

      • Here's how I see it. There is absolutely no way to know what is going to happen to our conscience after death. We could be destroyed, or any of the thousands of religions could be correct. However, there is no point in worrying about it, as you won't find the answer and will only make yourself anxious. It's better for your peace of mind if you just accept it as a fact of life and move on.

I couldn't give a shit. The way I see it - I'm immortal. It's impossible to be conscious of being unconscious. I cannot be aware of timelessness or non-existence. For all intents and purposes, I live forever. It won't matter after I die because I will be incapable of assigning values or meaning to anything. Besides, it's not as if existence has any sort of objectively valuable position above the concept of non-existence. Just live your life.

        • I'm the same; I like existence, and that being threatened or ceasing altogether scares the shit out of me. On top of that, a friend of mine younger than me died a few years back, with DVT. He had a pretty lax exercise régime, as do I. As such, I've been a big hypochondriac since (getting better, though). The good news is, he smoked a lot, drank a lot, ate a lot of Chinese food, the latter of which I don't do at all, the former two not much at all. I saw the doctor about a year later, after one particular sleepless night, and he set my mind to rest. Still, every now and then, I worry. :/

        • For me it's the fear of missing out on the stuff I want to do. Really though, any of this fear is just acting against us and we can't enjoy the present properly if we're thinking of ways we could die or things we could miss out on. :/ If anything is scary it's the fear of not being ready to die.
Quite frankly, the fact that I am eventually going to die terrifies me.
It's a rather silly thing to worry about, since it's entirely out of your control and something we will all face. Worry not about dying, as it is inevitable. We, as humans, have a gift. We are able to experience life and communicate with others like nobody before us, and like no other beings on our planet. We can experience music, art, dance, and literature. We build communities, families, and cities. You will see a great many things accomplished during your lifetime, and you may even be a part of it. It excites me to get older and to see our imaginations burst with ideas that eventually are put in place, and it excites me to see what the younger generations can bring to the table that we just didn't even think of. And one day, I'll die. Like when you go camping, I strive to leave this place in better condition than I found it, for someone else will inherit our problems. And, regardless of your religious beliefs or what you think of the afterlife, the worst that can happen is...nothing. Much like the time before you were born, you wont even know you're gone. People will remember you, and your life continues in their memory.

          • I've resigned myself. It sucks-the thought of you consciousness ceasing to exist is terrifying- but it's inevitable, and once you stop panicking everything is okay.
