Batman: Arkham City/Origins Impressions.

Since some people are not bright enough to know the difference between IMPRESSIONS, and a REVIEW. Let me state what it is. This in only IMPRESSIONS. So right off the bat lets say this. The new Batman game is essentially just more Arkham City... That is NOT a bad thing AT ALL! With a new team at the helm, and the time between games, can you really expect a massive amount of changes? It would probably take much longer to change gameplay, and all that stuff. So whats that saying? If it aint broke, don't fix it! That has been the philosophy here with this games design, it is more of the same and that is good. Telling "another" origin story, this game starts off after Batman has been on the job for merely two years. With this, you will see many old faces for the "first time" like The Joker, Bane, and Enigma. With it taking place so far back in time, and the old cast retired. Many characters have gotten new voices. Like Troy Baker now being Joker instead of Luke Skywalker. Each one sounds younger, which is fitting. It is not like the new Sam Fisher voice were he is supposed to be older, but sounds like he is in his 30s. So far the writing is fantastic! And i will stop there. Sorry. The open world essentially looks like Arkham City before it became a prison... Well, it really is Arkham City. And the combat is still fantastic, adding new difficulty to the formula and a different kind of boss fight. They present a challenge for every new skill that you learn. They are there for you to master when you face these big guys. Gotta rap this up, class is starting. Just know that Arkham Origins is a great entry into this series that you cannot miss! More of the same, is not always a bad thing.

    • I loved Asylum and loved City even more because the combat was nearly identical with better bosses. Im sure ill love Origins too, i just need to buy it still. I heard the joker steals the spotlight from all the other villains AGAIN! They really need to let this bromance between the bat and joker die already, we all know how its gonna play out. Batman seemingly wins joker, joker tricked batman, batman needs to recuperate, joker tricks batman one more time, the bat doesnt fall for it a third time and takes joker out.

    • Definitely not worth a buy, more of a rental or friend borrow. But i don't like how you didn't talk about all the glitches that are happening with the game or how so many great characters are just throw away as side-missions. I like that you don't score games by the way.

      • Just finished the game today. It started off a little blah, but eventually became great. Honestly, I loved almost all of the game. There were a few things that I disliked, like how he had some of the gadgets that he acquired in the older games or how there is a large freeze problem in certain areas. Now I plan on looking for the rest of the extortion data, finishing most wanted missions, and looking for Easter eggs.

      • I like it. The game takes awhile to really gear up though. But once it does it is good. There are a few things I don't like. One is the fact that there are nearly as many grapple point on buildings as there were in Arkham City when you are gliding. I can be gliding along and start pressing the grapple button and nothing happens. I end up landing on a building and all of a sudden there are a bunch of grapple points available. It's rather annoying. Then the fighting system is the as tight as it was in Arkham City. You have to buffer some of the knockout combos (Y+RT being the biggest one). And the overall fighting systems seems to have reverted back to Arkham Asylum's fighting system. Where enemies can jump half the distance of the fighting area to connect a punch and you don't even see it coming. And then there is that detective mode. The part where you rewind the scene. To be honest, it is way more annoying than useful. But outside of that. I am enjoying it. Like I said I wasn't digging on the story at first. But then once the plot twist happens I really got into it. As for the new Batman and Joker voice actors it's 50/50. I don't like the guy they got for Batman. I've heard better alternatives in the cartoons. But that new Joker. He does a fine job. There are even times he REALLY channels Mark Hamill. Over all I give the game a good 7 out of 10.

        • I didn't play any of the other games, but a few things are unattractive to me: 1: The game is overwhelming. It makes you feel Ike you should know what you're doing, instead of actually telling you what to do. For example, the upgrade system. Sure, it's pretty self-explanatory, but it doesn't make much sense to even have one to begin with. And it doesn't really explain everything, you still need to experiment for your self and figure out how things work. Another example of this is the combat. It tells you the basics, like dodging and countering, but to really get good, you need to read and practice all the combos in the pause menu. Boring, I know. 2: The combat feels unresponsive and weird. This may be because I'm used to The Amazing Spider-man's combat (which is essentially, whenever spider-sense tingles, prey Y/Triangle to counter) and that Arkham Origins requires you to time your counters, but it still feels weird regardless. 3: Lack of open world gameplay with other characters. Some one tell my why we couldn't get a non-canon costume for Nightwing? Or Robin, or Deathstroke? The DLC costumes suck ass IMO. Overall, I haven't gotten very far (I just defeated Deathstroke (which was such a bullshit battle to begin with)) and I sort of enjoy the game, but I have to force myself to play it.

          • More of the same which is still good. What isn't good are the massive frame rate drops, glitches, and lackluster ending.

                • I'm honestly fine with getting more of the same, as long as the stories remain new and well written. They could keep rehashing the Arkham games over and over, just give me new stories with them.
