In a previous thread, it was brought to my attention that to be someone's partner, sometimes, your religion matters. This person (who shall remain unnamed) claims that girls have taken an interest in him, but because he was an atheist, they shunned away immediately. This can go either way. If you're an atheist, can you date a religious person?
Atheist: Someone who doesn't subscribe to any and all supernatural deities. Includes agnostics of all kinda. Religious person: someone who believes or hopes for a God and an afterlife. Isn't exclusive to church goers or faith holders.
On the show, "The atheist experience", one of the hosts say that his fiancé's family thinks he's satan because he's an atheist. Likewise, I have also turned down girls because their religious beliefs were to extreme for me (abortion, evolution, etc.) So, what do you guys think?

  • Yes, it is a dealbreaker. To be in a serious relationship with someone whose faith differs greatly than mine would cause a lot of fundamental issues in our relationship.

  • I don't mind if they have a religion, but compulsory church attendance and praying at meals is a deal breaker.

  • Religion doesn't matter in the slightest. If they are are an asshole about it, they are an asshole anyway so you just don't date assholes.

It really depends. Some people might not be able to handle it, but others could. My girlfriend is a diehard Christian, but I'm still figuring out where I stand. She insisted on how she'd never date a nonbeliever, but she seems to be willing to accept me and my dwindling faith. People change. It definitely could be a problem, but not always.

I'm an atheist and I've dated girls who were from different religions. The deciding factor is if the Atheist is an asshole and/or if the religious person is a bigot. I love religion for the fact that in each religion they universally express that we should love each other no matter what and to strive for inner peace.

  • ive dated religious girls before, but i knew it couldn't last that long. serious relationships would have to be with a nonreligious girl.
