Linked above is Adam Sessler giving the game a 5/5 review. Most others I've read or watched have been 10's and one at the lowest a 9.5. Another one I wouldn't consider even halfway credible gave the game a 70/100 because the characters didn't have good morals and there was too much sexism and violence.
I could go on for hours about that, but I'll spare you.
So as of now, it seems as though GTA V is not over hyped and may very well be one of the greatest games of all time. I could bet money this is true, but we'll all find out tomorrow.
What does everyone think?

Edited by Halo: 9/18/2013 7:37:40 AMHalo: Reach got ridiculously high ratings also and it turned out to be the worst conceivable Halo game possible. Ratings don't mean much. inb4Bungietards

As expected.

It's fantastic! This is actually my first GTA game, and man was this a good one to get my feet wet with! :)
-
I picked up the game at nine this morning. It's been sitting here on my desk since, as I do work for university. Tomorrow will be much the same. There is no greater cruelty than a new game with no time to play it.
-
I feel shafted. Wanted this game but NO ... No PC version and my PS3 died FML
-
Not really surprising. Polished mechanics, enormous open world, amusing story and reflection of America and its culture, great sound and graphics, and that great "GTA feeling" that you only get from Rockstar.
-
Well thats cool, im getting it for my brother tonight. I probably wont play it myself though.
-
I've never been big on GTA, but it does look like a quality game for that genre.
-
Twenty bucks the gaming community finds something to b1tch about in the next few weeks.
-
GTA IV also got multiple 10/10s, and that game was a piece of shit.
-
It's GTA IV all over again.
-
So as of now, it seems as though GTA V is not over hyped and may very well be one of the greatest games of all time.
Because ratings and reviewers never contribute to games being overhyped.
-
Didn't they give red dead a good rating? I hated that game alot, so reviews are sometimes useless. But this is gta so I know ill love it.
-
I know for a fact it won't be GOTY so saying it will be one of the greatest games of all time is still over hyping it. Look at how many other games got dozens of 9/10 reviews and turned out to be average games. Dishonored, for example, got tons of E3 awards but was a pretty good game at best. By pretty good I mean 7.5/10 or 8/10 being generous. I think GTAV will be a good game just not as good as the fanboys want it too be. If it wins GOTY, I'll be the first to make a thread saying how wrong I was
-
What I don't get is how nearly every review I've seen that has given it 10/10 has also said that there are flaws to it (whether it be frame rate issues or unlikeable/evil protagonists). Surely if there's any flaws at all it's not a 10/10 game?
-
My first thought was... so what? Ratings don't mean shit to me. If I like or dislike a game, it's based upon my own opinion. I have a strong enough sense of Will that I don't feel the need to "borrow" my opinions from other people. I'll buy a game based upon info about the game (not reviews, developer related information) before it releases, I'll play it, then I'll decide whether it sucks or not. I decide whether or not it has replay value. I decide whether or not it's a "keeper" or is simply trade-in fodder. I understand he's had a bright career in pandering to the Gamer crowd, but Sessler can go -blam!- himself, to be honest. I've never had an interest in the GTA series, it doesn't matter to me what kind of reviews it gets, or from whom. I haven't played any of them past five minutes of each of the first three. That was enough to let me know that if I played more, I'd be able to feel my IQ drop. Never picked one up since then.

So by OP logic GTA V is not overhyped because game reviewers who almost always give out scores based on hype gave it good scores. lol. It doesn't deserve a 10.
-
I think I can finally put down Skyrim for awhile.
-
I'm not going to buy it for the lulz. I've withholden from GTA since GTA 2 and this ones from the looks of it is not going to be an exception.
-
Didn't GTA IV get crazy reviews too? Everyone stopped playing it in two weeks.
-
People still care about GTA this much? Yea the first couple games were great, but now they are just the same old game. Have been for awhile

Edited by BADMAGIK: 9/17/2013 2:42:42 PM
What does everyone think?
I think I'm having a major flashback to when GTA IV was released.

I mad... I don't get my copy till the 24th, but my birthday is on the 18th. Yay late birthdays.
-
Good on you for ignoring reviews you don't agree with purely for the convenience of your narrative. I too hope to one day have the ability to shutout dissenting opinions and live peacefully up my own ass.
-
Gta V is way overhyped.
-
I would get it if I could get it on the Xbox one
