So I have a job interview later today, any advice?

T4R, I've applied for a job at my local supermarket, but I've never really had an interview before. I have come to the Flood for advice. EDIT: Heading off now, wish me luck!

  • You need to be enthusiastic about your future and the purpose of getting the job. When they ask why you want the job, if you say "Cause I need the money", they ain't gonna hire you. If you say "I'm planning for my future education, and the experience I will gain here could benefit me greatly in future employment" then you're much more likely to get the job.

  • Eye contact is important, if you can't manage it simply look at their foreheadin the middle. Give a strong, confidant handshake. Dress smart and be positive.

  • The thing that I see kill interviews the most is too much talking. Granted, we have a group interview process that isn't quite the same. The more you talk, the more you run the risk of saying something that will hurt your chances. The real killer seems to be the question, "Why did/will you leave your previous job?". Many people seem to think that is an open invitation to criticize former bosses, co-workers, or organizations. Never a good idea, because the interviewer will assume you will say the same things about them.

  • Look into the interviewer's eyes and say"Is there anything I can do to improve my chances?" When he stutters, slowly slide out of your chair and approach him on your knees. Maintain eye contact while you undo his zipper. You know what to do. Once you finish, don't swallow. Tell him you're keeping his seed for evidence and if he doesn't hire you you will sue for sexual assault. Demand a raise while you're at it. Wala. You're golden.

They're actually not really that bad. There is no reason to be nervous. The best advice I can give you is be honest and just be yourself. Just wear khaki pants and a dark blue polo shirt.

    • When your doing interviews for those sort of jobs they just want to know your not an ass hole/retard. Don't stress too much, they usually end up being more of a chat than a proper test of character and ability.

    • Just relax. Just act like you were talking to anyone else but obviously be respectful as hell and all that.

    • If you have an interview then they liked your resume. All you need to do now is be a normal human being. Act smart and they might expect too much work out of you, and of a higher standard.

    • Supermarkets generally have a high turnover. You'll be fine if you can speak coherantly and avoid swearing at the interviewer.

      • Take a massive dump before you leave.

      • Always ask a question when, at the end of the interview, they say "Do you have any questions?" Usually my response to that question is "If I get hired onto your team, is there anything in the meantime for me to prepare myself" or something similar.
