Don't get me wrong, I like a good story as much as the next guy. But I also like pure combat, I like games like halo and Skyrim as they got the balance just right. What do you think destiny will be more about, and what do you prefer in a game?

The thing is finding the right balance and making the game unique. Destiny will have you come back. This is what a game should do is have you have a great experience of story, action and music not to mention all the work that goes into making that world a solid real world. A game that has a open sandbox letting you explore it is just interesting fun as you learn in depth more about it. Skyrim or Fallout are examples of this. Each story has its key moments.

A great story leads to epic combat! I want my guardian to be an expansion of me. I the storyline plays the way I think it will, we the players, will be in for a huge surprise!

Destiny will probably be just like every Halo game Bungie has ever made: a series of brief and mostly incoherent narrative sequences interchanged with prolonged but relatively tight gameplay ones. They're mostly average AAA devs; quit revering them.

Edited by RC1207S: 8/17/2013 1:01:01 AMThe larger and better told story of Halo (plus the graphics and vehicles) is what raises it above simple run-n-guns like CoD,BF,Gears, and Killzone. Destiny already has a good foundation for an EPIC story, what with The Wall, The Traveler, The Golden Age, and way too many other hints and mysteries to name. This story plus its RPG-ish elements will hopefully be combined into an absolutely amazing and long-lasting FPS.

Combat is the backbone of the game it's what makes it fun however without the story the game lacks an emotional bond with the player

I could write a longer post about how crucial the storytelling is for me, but I'm on mobile at the moment. For now, I'd say it's best to have some motivation behind all the killing. Context is needed to create an atmosphere, to provoke a specific mood on the player, to help you believe the world and the situation you're facing; the illusion of a reality. And, if for a moment, the player gets immersed in your narrative and forgets about the outside world, then you haven't built just a game; you have created a work of art. Of course, all of this would be useless if it isn't backed up by a robust and fun gameplay. Both story and mechanics need each other to reach this "work-of-art" status. As a final thought, we wouldn't need a fine studio such as BUNGiE if the game was only about shooting aliens, aren't we?

I love both but if push came to shove I'd choose storyline
