Destiny: What We Know So Far (Guide for the Basic Questions)

Background: Destiny is an upcoming "Action Roleplaying First Person Shooter" video game, developed by Bungie (Creators of Halo) and published by Activision (Call of Duty). Original court documents released that gave the first info to Destiny can be found Here. Currently, The game is currently slated for a release sometime in 2014 for the Xbox 360, Xbox One, Playstation 3 and Playstation 4. Set 700 years in future, Destiny takes place within the confines of our Solar System (As of now). Following Humanity's Golden Age, an event only known as "The Collapse" led to the destruction of human colonies and left mankind teetering upon total destruction. The surviving humans forged a city, the "Last City", underneath The Traveler, a large celestial sphere of mysterious origin. The Traveler, which hovers above the Last City, has helped to protect it's citizens and allows the defenders of the city, known as The Guardians, to wield an unknown power to help defend the city. As humanity has begun to move from the city and look to reconstruct their former colonies, we have discovered vast amounts of hostile aliens settled amongst the ruins across the Solar System and who are now pushing to destroy the Last City. As a Guardian of The City, you are tasked to eliminate the hostile threat before Humanity is wiped from this galaxy for good. The Guardians Defenders of "The City", the Guardians are the protectors of Humanity against the hoards of aliens who now threaten the city. The player (You) will play as a Guardian, customizing it as you adventure throughout the Solar System. The Guardians live in The City, and can be one of several species. The following three have been confirmed, though the list could continue to grow:
Humans - "Relatable, Tough, Uncomplicated" Exo - "Sinister, Powerful, Tireless" Awoken - "Exotic, Beautiful, Mysterious"
On top of picking a Species from the list above, as a Guardian you will also become part of a Class. At least three have been revealed, though the list may continue to expand:
Titan - powerful mechanistic soldiers of the Last City, equipped with powerful weapons and indomitable advanced mech-like suits of fiercely devastating power. Hunter - the reconnaissance masters of the Last City, who seek, find and destroy those who want to end Humankind's seed." Warlock - wield the power of spells to complement their weapons and to overpower their enemies Vanguard - Unconfirmed Class mentioned in an IGN Story. Bungie has neither confirmed nor denied that this is real. Likely an IGN misquote
As of now, there are currently 9 different iterations of how your Guardian can be: Human Titan, Human Hunter, Human Warlock, Exo Titan, Exo Hunter, Exo Warlock, Awoken Titan, Awoken Hunter, Awoken Warlock. Factions Not much has been revealed about Factions at this time. We do know that they exist within The City, and seem to be clans or groups that Guardians can align with. Speculation is that Factions could relate to competitive multiplayer, based around the concept of "Faction Wars". The current known Factions of Destiny are:
- New Monarchy - Dead Orbit - FWC - Seven Seraphs - FOTC - Osiris
Enemies The enemies of Humanity and The Guardians take the form in various groups of hostile Alien races, each with it's own hierarchy of ranks and powers. Currently, these Alien races have taken up root in the various ruins of Humanity's Golden Age, and are now pushing on Earth in attempt to destroy The City and wipe Humanity from the galaxy. Below are the various Alien races and details we know about them.
Cabal - "War Rhinos". Large, ferocious aliens that are typically seen carrying heavier weapons and using heavier vehicles. The Cabal have been seen on Mars currently, though they could possibly be seen elsewhere in the galaxy. The Cabal seem to have a Social or Military hierarchy, with squads of Legionaries led by a Centurion, though this has not been confirmed The Fallen - "Space Pirates". Agile, six limbed "insect like" race and one of the primary enemies in Destiny. They have been confirmed on places such as Earth, the Moon and Europa, though no permanent settlements have been seen. The Fallen are divided into distinct Houses of Nobility. Each House is hostile to both Humanity and the other Houses. In combat, groups of Fallen warriors operate under control of a Fallen Captain (Known for their red capes). Types of Classes below Fallen Dreg: The lowest class of Fallen, Dreg are thieves who wield shock daggers and pistols. Dreg are notable by the fact they only have two arms, not four. Fallen Vandal: Not much is known about the Vandals, though they are higher ranked then the Dreg and tend to have strong assault weapons. Fallen Captain: The highest rank, distinguished by their heavy armor and twin swords. Captains have a sense of nobility and consider humanity a lesser race. The Hive: "Space Zombies". Not much is known about The Hive at this time, though they have been designed to capture a feeling of "Undead Royalty". Vex: "Time Traveling Robots". An alien species that inhabits Venus, The Vex are speculated to have a stronghold known as the "Citadel" on Venus. Not a ton is known about the Vex's battle strategy or hierarchy, but upon death, a beam of light erupts from the Vex's mouth. Akin to the soul leaving the body.
Locations Destiny takes place within the confines of our Solar System. Confirmed places are below.
The City - The Hub for players, The City is Humanity's final bastion, located under the Traveler. Speculated to be located in Puerto Princessa, Philippines, many speculate The City to be a safe zone for players to go on missions, trade items, upgrade armor, etc. Bungie has not confirmed this. The Wall, another location, is a giant wall that surrounds The City, originally built by Titans. Nothing else is known about it at this time. Earth - Humanities home world that now lays in ruins, Earth is confirmed to have multiple areas that the player can visit. These include: The City/The Wall, European Dead Zone, Old Chicago, Old Russia, The Tower (Home of the Guardians in the City), Twilight Gap and Mumbai Push. Unconfirmed locations that could be on Earth are Black Garden and The Reef. The Moon - Orbiting Earth, the Moon (Luna) is another location playable in Destiny. Scattered with Human ruins, one location confirmed on the moon is The Hellmouth, a large pit located on the Moon's surface. Planets in the Sol System - Venus and Mars have been confirmed to be places that the Guardian can visit, while Mercury and EuJupiter is currently under speculation as to whether it could be visitable. Locations on Venus include The Shores of Time and The Citadel. On Mars, locations include the Mars Exclusion Zone, The Dust Palace and Charlemagne's Vault. Europa - A moon orbiting Jupiter that has been confirmed to be a playable location. Nothing more is known. The Cassini - A derelict spaceship located near Saturn that is a visitable location. Nothing more is known. Cosmodone Breach - A location somewhere in the Destiny Universe. Nothing more is known about it.
Weapons Weapons in Destiny can be placed into three categories: Primary, Special and Heavy. Weapons also appear to have classes, though only two have been confirmed as of now: Exotic and Superior. Every weapon has a level that is represented by a number. In addition, each weapon has a number of traits represented by a number. Traits include "Accuracy", "Stability", "Handling" and "Magazine". The range of the numbers has not yet been displayed. Weapons can be customized as the Guardian adventures throughout the galaxy, as shown in the Destiny E3 gameplay reveal. Further information on how upgrades and customization has not yet been given. This guide will be routinely updated with any new information. All information currently here has come from Mailsacks, DestinyWiki and the Destiny Wikipedia page. If you have any info you wish added or changed, feel free to post here asking. I will credit you in the guide. I hope this addresses some of your questions that you may have surrounding the Destiny Universe, and I will try and answer what I can. Contributors - Mindshard (Information on the Original Bungie/Activision Contract) - Blowdrum (Vanguard info)
