For those of you who don't know, people are going crazy to find out what a Vanguard is. With Bungie selling Vanguard t-shirts and other teasers of this mysterious figure. Some say it is a new class, like the hunter/ warlock/ titan. Other say it is a investigation organization, since when you to the Destiny website and click on Venus, it reads
Awaiting reports from the Vanguard
.
But recently Bungie has released the new Space Mail Sack Magic and one of the "questions" was
People have been saying that the vanguard is a different class…
To which Bungie answered:
People say a lot, don’t they? The Internet is a big place, abundant with theory and speculation of every flavor. Safeguard yourself against spoilers and rumor, my friends. If you didn't hear it on the Bungie Blog, it ain’t nuthin’. We’ll tell you all about the Vanguards, and how you can become one of them. You’ll learn the truth right here. Someday.
So this means that everyone can become a Vanguard, which means it isn't an organization. And I don't think Bungie would make a new class while already having 3 announced, and saying that a fire team will consist of 3 guardians.
I decided to research the word "Vanguard".
According to Wikipedia
The vanguard would lead the line of march and would deploy
first on the field of battle, either in front of the other wards
or to the right if they stood in line.
So this leads me to believe that it is a title. One of the 3 pillars that make up Destiny is that
Everyone can be legend
Maybe this is what they were talking about. Maybe after you get a certain amount of loot, or cleared a certain amount of dungeons, or complete certain tasks, you become a Vanguard. An elite Guardian sort of deal.
This is just a thought, a theory. Tell me what you guys think!

I have already said this a couple of times, Vanguard = First to arrive / leaders of the pack First place players can play = BETA HENCE: Beta players will receive the title of vanguard.
-
I am confident Vanguard refers to early play testers and Beta Testers when it comes out.

Edited by purplencute: 3/16/2014 9:53:30 AMI put my hat off to you. I was thinking that but with what you said now I know. I reckon that with this maybe even exclusive title we we be able to explore certain places before everyone else or get guns that can only be found/unlocked with that class. But if it isint something like they did with the reach flames and you can actually earn it (like a recon helmet) than who knows if it will actually affect gameplay or the story in any way.

It's a level cap
-
Maybe it's a prestige.
-
I think it applies only to the top tier guardians, those who have ventured the farthest and took down the nastiest bad guys. It has to be a status appointed to someone. On the theory that it applies to beta testers, bungie wouldn't be making this such a big deal. Their beta presents are a bit smaller in significance. It has to be something like Recon. Bring on the vidmasters 2.0
-
I think you're right and that it's a rank or title.
-
My theory would be some sort of elite status or, like some have mentioned, a title. By definition a Vanguard is someone on the forefront of an action or movement. I hate to say this but it might draw similarities of Recon.

Maybe it's a rank.

The more and more I think about it the more it seems like the Vanguard is the title of beta testers. You mentioned that Venus and other planets were "awaiting reports from the Vanguards" possibly because these might be the areas released for the beta testers (Vanguards) to test? Just a theory. Hopefully Bungie day will answer some questions.

Beta date?
-
a van guard could maybe a commpanion or a follower but i still do think that a vanguard is a title you get maybe for travelling a lot and exploring just a theory
-
The vanguard is a clan of bungie and if your elite And got some skills they may let you join me.
-
i think that vanguard might be a title of some sourt or maybe a leader just a thought
-
My theory: vanguard is the new recon.

Started a new topic: I think I have figured out the whole Vanguard deal...(1 Reply)

Maybe joining the "vanguards" would be like joining a guild in another RPG or mmo? Like the mages guild in the elder scrolls?
-
Or maybe they are the beta testers. :P
