The Story so far...Part 1 of many

The trees part, the city appears, its walls looking favourably down on me. The steel shines like the hope I looked for. All of it scattered by those monsters, Fallen they call them, all they are to me are monsters; they move like bugs, spiders. Their mutations (extra arms) a weird twist in what is a horrid creature to behold, from the small retched Dreg, glorified thieves. They hiss like snakes and as sly as foxes, they aren’t the worst; luckily they only have two arms, at least for their vanity. It’s the Captains that are the most fearsome; something about them tells me they were something more in the past, their pride(which seems to run in their blood) reflects this and their superiority over the rest of the “pack”. With bellowing capes and clasping multiple weapons in their 4 palms they howl straight into a man’s soul. But the city ushered this away, a feeling of comfort touched me, something that I hadn’t felt since I left my home, since Earth fell. The Traveller had that same glint of the walls, but there was something deeper; it called out to me, it had purpose more than anything on this planet, in this Solar System. And it exacted this purpose well, Guardians are its means to produce results; men & women, Exo, Human, Awoken, all picked to serve the Traveller and the City, the only City. The City was the last bastion of man, built under the shroud of the Traveller, defending us as we built and healed our wounds under its gaze. That is the reason for a wall, a great one at that; for there is no other place in this Solar System, on Earth where man resides. The City for all the danger that surrounds it seems to function like any other during the Golden Age, but no-one remembers how cities did function during the Golden Age; all we know is that peace and prosperity were at as great a level as danger is now, which is high. Everything was better then, the food was more plentiful, the people richer and happiness a feeling more frequent than current times. The gates loom over me, impregnable for any that are on good terms with the City, but for the invaders it is just a mere barrier to get at all those poor, retched people with-in; but these aliens have felt our bite now, Hunters have shown them what fire lies within the heart of all of us; a burning desire to take back what was rightfully ours. The Hunters venture out and remind all enemies of why the City still hasn’t fallen, the reason being the Guardians. The Traveller’s Guardians exact its command on this world, whether it be the strong Titans that line the praecipes of the tall ramparts; nearly like a castle. Or the Warlocks, those magicians that share that integral connection with the Traveller, channelling its energy upon the field of battle. Then there are the Hunters, secretive servants; their snipers always loaded and their scopes always ready. These Guardians are the spear that the City and the Traveller wield. I can now appreciate what they meant by inviting, the streets of the city are abuzz with talk and people (and so it would be) moving about, opposing this war of attrition. All these people appear dressed like not anybody surrounding them, another sign of the past; the variety of fabrics tantalized my eyes. I moved further up the street to find the Centre of the Guardians. The statue of the first guardian stood at the entrance, an Awoken, only recognizable on the plaque bellow, for the statue was made of the same substance as that of the Traveller; a white, nearly infinite substance. Men pass me like no other men I’ve seen, some feature camouflage (Hunters), others flowing robes (Warlocks) and others with heavy armour (Titan) all moving about like one well oiled machine; each one knowing his or her path in what is for them a dark world. In the background I could hear talk of visits to Mars and Venus, skirmishes against the Vex (on Venus) and the Cabal (on Mars) reaching my ears. They are what I dream of, the Travellers purpose becoming my purpose; direction is all I seek. The signing up was directly ahead of me, a great circular hall flanked by two sets of marble stairs going up into the offices of the Guardian headquarters. Secretaries were on mass here, all human, probably for their friendly quality. I take my place in the Awoken queue. It feels like it’s been a while, but probably less so, efficiency seems key here. The woman greets me in a warmly manner. “So, finally come to the city have we”, as she talked her hand grabbed my jaw and twisted my head, looking at the fairness of my skin. “So, you’re young”, her eyes giving me that disgruntle look. “Yes” I replied “23” “Well, have fun” looked back at her screen “Any preference on class” “No” my confusion appearing in my words, “Well, as you’re an Awoken I’d gladly recommend the status of Warlock, don’t your people have some affinity for magic. “I..emm.. don’t know” this stupidity was a weird feeling. “Then go and get your gear, who knows... I might be looking at a future member of the Conduit ha” I walked of, whatever they meant by human kindness was not present in that vessel of flesh. I went ahead up the stair case clearly marked as the path for a Warlock, the marble steps smoothed down by ages of use, the wise men and philosophers of the city clambering up and down these steps for eons. The cloaks gently rolling down the cool stone surface. A room looking over the whole City was the place I was told to head for, the travellers shadow could be viewed over half the city up here; a breath taking view that would never produce boredom in my heart. “So... the new recruits have assembled” A booming voice came down the corridor like nothing I had ever heard in my life and with it a human mage appeared, his helmet of light colours held between his arm and chest. His white robes emblazoned with the emblem of the Conduit across it, a black circle (representing the Traveller) radiating Celestial Blue rays. This was father Suman. (if you look at my previous posts you will understand things like the Conduit, the link is to that post regarding the Traveller's Conduit) (I picked the name Suman as it means wise/intelligent) Tell me what you think, any modifications, still haven't give it a name so suggestions please and obviously spelling(Im writing in England so color is colour here... so on and so forth)
