Considering that we'll be exploring many different planets/satellites in Destiny, many of which will have less gravitational pull than Earth, would it not make sense that our player's jump height will be slightly greater on Venus, somewhat greater on Mars, and considerably greater on the Moon or Europa?

2013? Oldest post on forums confirmed

Never let this die

2013 lol

That would be sweet

Would be cool if it also altered bullet ballistics like range and such

I really hope it will be different on different worlds. It's something I've always dreamed about in traveling through space: to experience their different gravities. And btw... Earth=1g Venus=0.9g Mercury (have a feeling this planet will be featured judging from the PS4 announcement backgrounds)=0.39 Mars= 0.38 (Less than Mercury because of the lower density...go figure) Jupiter??=2.64 (only cloud-based missions) Saturn??=0.93 (uncertain as Jupiter) Now onto the moons.... Luna (our moonly moon)= 0.16 Europa= 0.133 Io=0.18 Ganymede=0.144 Titan=0.14 Just silly numbers to some folk I realize...but it's worth a shot.

Earth is the only place habitable place the human race can live without altering anything. If the human race wants to colonize anywhere else then they are going to have to alter the planets or moon, or build something for the humans to live in. But for game play sake anything is possible and it doesn't matter if its like real life or not, that's part of the reason why video games are so great.

Edited by tsassi2: 5/24/2013 2:48:12 PMI'd appreciate that. I doubt it'd even be difficult at all to implement. Halo already had gravity settings that could be modified by the player. I see no reason to not have variable gravity in Destiny.

Edited by WurstsaIat: 5/24/2013 10:32:56 AMThis would be really nice. I hope Bungie implements it.

Mars is smaller than Earth.
-
Yes, I would enjoy bouncing around the moon in a reduced-gravity environment.
-
In order for humanity to have developed these planets, they'd have to be terraformed. That means artificial gravity. If gravity was different, it would alter run speeds, the way guns performed, the way vehicles operated. Hell even the jungles of Venus wouldn't be able to grow if the gravity was different from that of Earths. I'm sure there will probably be areas of space, say outside derelict space ships with altered gravity, but on planets surfaces it'll remain a constant.
-
I doubt it. There will probably a perk for your armour to adapt to your surroundings

This concept has already been discussed in multiple threads ;) Though it is an important topic!

Edited by Defence Grid: 5/23/2013 12:11:02 AMhear me out.. obviously fall damage is important. but with different gravity's comes different heights. where fall damage may or may not be Lethal. so to get around this players have some form of "gravity alternators" from say on and off. so if its on. it alters you "jump height" to be consistent and relatively safe. (assuming you dont jump off a building..) But maybe you see a reasonably high vantage point you wish to get to, and with the device on you simply cant reach it. so you turn it off and jump to the vantage point. But you miss! and you then you hit the ground with enough force to do some serious damage. and thus that is the risk of turning the device off. you may be able to jump great heights or distances. but miscalculate and you'll have a date with gravity. or space. depends where you are. i dont know. just a thought.
-
Lets hope they don't forget this detail.
-
I would say I hope the issue is addressed. In terms of actual gameplay, I like consistency and I think it would be less confusing if gravity is constant (at least most of the time). I don't know if I like the idea of different jump heights/movement speeds for each planet.
-
I hope so! Also, I'd like to see gravity artificially return to "normal" when inside human buildings. As for gravity within alien compounds, I don't know what to say. Haha Their normal would be different, yet adding another standard would be weird if not annoying (normal in this building, lighter outside, then extra heavy in a new place, blah). For that reason, I'd rather recant my promotion for artificial gravity. In other words, I'm not sure what I'd prefer and am just spitballing thoughts for conversation. Regardless, other planets/worlds should have different gravitations.

Edited by MastaSin: 5/23/2013 2:20:26 AMI think it's possible, Bungie did a great job with Night of Solace "gravity" mission. I'm sure Bungie used this as a test field on how to handle better gravity.
-
Oops, I'm sorry, I thought you said the gravity would be greater.
-
And the moon is much smaller.
-
Well they did wonderfully with LNoS on Halo Reach, so I think they will do wonderfully again, if they are implementing it.
-
There will probably be gravity changes when you go to different planets. And the moon will obviously let you be able to bounce around.
-
I wonder how realistic they will make everything. Hopefully it will be like that.
