Does being a nerd condemn you?

Let's be honest, nobody likes nerds, and the subcategories that come within, from comic and manga readers to gamers and cosplayers. So we are bound to be a social group highly by stereotypes and forever being treated as a sub-social group?

  • It's not what you are that condemns you, it's your attitude.

  • Only in high school. After high school? People WANT nerds, since they tend to be top of the class and will pretty much ensure they have a great life after college.

  • Firstly, the term is "geek", unless you know you're specifically talking about "nerds", there is a difference. I classify myself as a geek. I am socially outgoing, but have my personal tastes when it comes to gaming, "geekness", board games and card games. My friends in real life know I'm a Bungie fan and there's no worrying about it. It doesn't really matter in the real world. Be who you are and enjoy life. This is just more a stereotype argument than anything. It's more a concentration in a subject area. You're so focused on one are of your life that you're willing to spend time and money to make a living off of it. By that logic shouldn't all college graduates be considered geeks and/or nerds? Nothing to be shamed about.

According to Spawn, I'm a geek, so this doesn't apply to me.

    • Only in high school is this really a concern. After your in college and later in life - NO ONE CARES. Heck for that matter the ones who would have given you grief in high school may be the ones calling you 'Sir' because they work for you. Most people grow up after high school. Note: I said MOST, not all. Some are perpetually stuck being jerks. If you're a nerd and a jerk, well then there is no hope for you.

Lets see now... I game, often. Not WoW or stuff like that, but games nonetheless. I'm relatively intelligent. No straight A student, but considered intelligent. I also have tons of friends who have different interests, and I go to lots of parties. If the top two things make me a nerd, it certainly hasn't condemned me.

    • That depends if you are the kinda nerd that reads comics, eats hot pockets and drink Mountain Dew and plays WoW all day. Then yes. However if you game but still workout and still take care of yourself then no.

I believe you mean Geeks good sir! A 'nerd' is someone who is sole devoted to math, science, or most any other school related topic for any form of fun. Also chess.

          • Everybody can be considered a nerd. While we may be considered nerds for video games, people that can rattle off cars can be considered nerds, same with people who know sports, and many other things as well.

                • Usually being nerdy and doing well in school kind of go together. As long as that is the case, you'll be fine later on.

                  • Define "nerd". I play video games and take a lot of interest in them, and I post on online forums. Other than that, being a brony would be the only "nerdy" thing I can think of. But no, it does not condemn me. I'm very lucky to have found a girl that is amazing in every way and shares my interests.

Depends on if you are a girl or not.

I'm a nerd, proud of it, everyone knows that I am one, and it doesn't negatively alter any aspect of my life. I still get women pretty easily.
