What would you have done? (The battle of the Bulge)
This time I put you in the position of Hitler (This thread will not be about the Holocaust this is purely a military scenario). The fatherland is crumbling in late 1944 as army's from the west and east push forward without delay. It is what has always been feared in this situation to Germany to be assaulted on both sides, and there is not much time left to try and stabilize the fronts. Germany may issue one last gasp that can shock the world once again since the mighty blitzkriegs of the early 1940's, the Panzers are fueled and ready to breakthrough and over 200,000 soldiers have been allocated for just this situation on the western front. Surprisingly the Luftwaffe is ready as well, ME-262's and paratroopers will be used to disrupt allied movements and create havoc. The weather has blocked out allied air support for the next few days which will be a huge advantage. A commando brigade composed of Germans who speak American extremely well will be dropped in before to change road signs and confuse American units. The Americans you face are extremely inexperienced and are resting and refitting for future operations, they are completely unprepared.
Operation Wacht Am Rhein (Watch on the Rhine) is about to commence, its ultimate goal is the capture of the port of Antwerp, with it in German hands the allied army's in the west will be squeezed for supplies since that port is the closest only to the Normandy beach heads. If it is captured in time before the Allies can mount an effective counter offensive, the war may be able to be delayed in the west allowing for a stronger regrouping in the east to stave off the Russian hordes...maybe long enough for the vaunted Vunder vaffes (Wonder weapons) to be created and used appropriately.
However...that is for you to decide today, will you unleash one final gasp of German military might to attempt to disrupt the allies?
Or of course in an alternate scenario, spread you remaining troops and panzers out to the east and west to continue to try and hold them off. However Germany does not have much time left, its resources are dwindling and its armies have for the most part been shattered...
So Fuhrer? How can Germany be saved, can the fatherland shock the world one last time?

HUGE EDIT- It should be noted that your units are all extremely low on fuel and supplies, there is a major fuel dump in the path of the sixth panzer army though that was a major objective.

1 ReplyLeave a group to defend the middle, Pincer move the bottom and top, Use 40% of my air force to attack the 9th army, with 40% to hit the U.S 3rd army, use the 5th and 6th panzer army's to preform a pincher movement. Half the 5th move into the upper half of the U.S 1st army, and the 6th to wrap around the ninth to meet up and destroy the British XXX corps. The first army will then move into and destroy the U.S 3rd army, while the German 7th army, moves into the bottom half of the U.S 1st army, if help is needed units from the 7th will move in with the 5th Panzer corps to attack.

1 ReplyIf I'm a sane Fuhrer... I'm going to sue for peace. Or what I would strongly consider doing is yanking an enormous amount of my forces off of the western front and heading east with them prior to surrender: better to fall to Britain and the USA than the Soviets. I'll know my life is forfeit for war crimes any way this goes down, but there's no point in subjecting Germany to war at home and potential Soviet occupation. (As we know the Russian army was not feeling charitable once it made it to Germany.) But let's say surrender isn't an option and I'm trying to somehow win this war... I'm going with a rush to Antwerp on this one. If you're trying to win, you've got to throw the Hail Mary.

7 RepliesFirst thing I'd do is split the bulge. We'll call this the zipper line. Once I've opened that zipper line, we'll extract the main girth of our troop and they'll be free to emerge out from that opening. We will then erect heavy fortification, free from the restricting confines we emerged from. Once established, we will unleash our true German might - biochemical warfare. It will rain white liquid from the sky, covering all within three hundred miles of the Rhine. It is not only the Americans with a potent weapon my friend.
