What is the farthest distance from Earth that a full [b]stable[/b] orbit is possible? And I'm not talking about, say, a comit coming close and getting it's trajectory changed, I mean a full orbit like the moon/

4/16/2013 1:22:37 AM Permalinktechnically, if there were not all the other bodies in our galaxy. That thing could be as far away as you wanted as long as it was traveling slow enough. The real answer is extremely complicated and would depend heavily on the properties of the object its self. Can you be more specific?
4/16/2013 1:22:23 AM PermalinkIf you're not talking about geostationary orbit, then I was under the impression that any orbit radius can be stable as long as the orbit speed is correct, so any arbitrarily low orbit is fine as long as there is enough speed.
