How much should I practice driving?
I've already read my state drivers manual, how much driving practice should I get before I go take the test? I have a few hours right now.

My state actually asks if you've had 30 hours behind the wheel. (But it's just an honor system. I had 18.) I drove around my neighborhood a dozen times. I practiced parking in the hospital parking lot. It had a lot of different space layouts. You should drive at least until you are comfortable at any speed.

2 RepliesBefore you take the driver license test or your permit? If it's just your permit, I guess it doesn't really matter. But you should practice driving before trying to get your license.

Depends on your state. In PA, if you take the test at the DMV you need to parallel park so if you live here I'd suggest you learn to do that. Other than that, do everything enough to know where all the important buttons and switches are because they normally ask you for that. Other than that, just practice stopping at the white line (when it's there), and making legal turns and stuff. The kind of shit most people get docked for is really simple.

3 RepliesMy state required that you must drive 50 hours, including 10 at night, before you can get your license. That being said, I just wrote down 30-60 minutes everyday I drove. They can't prove that you lied on how many hours you drove. What state you live in?

They usually recommend 40-50 hours. But you don't really need that much time. Just practice long enough until you feel comfortable and confident about taking the road test. I took lessons for about a month before taking the road test. I've had my license for about a year now and haven't had any incidents, no crashes, no tickets, never been pulled over by a cop. Just remember that for the test, they watch everything you do, including the way you hold the wheel. Make sure you're doing everything the "proper way" and then once you pass you won't have to worry about any of that anymore.

In Australia, it's 100 hours which is a bit of a pain, but probably necessary. It depends if you're going auto or manual though. If auto, you could pretty much hop in and drive, apart from parking, but manual requires a bit more practice.

As much as possible, everybody has different amounts before going for a test. Some have 48 hours and some take over a year or more, it all depends on the person and if they feel they can pass.

1 ReplyI only drove about 24 hours even though it asked for 50. Just take a practice test online for the written part and don't drive like an ass with the instructor and you should be fine. I got stopped early on my written test because I couldn't have failed if I missed the rest of the questions. The only question I don't think I got wrong would be this one about a truck with a trailer and it asks how long it would take the truck to stop from 55mph.

As much as you need to feel confident behind the wheel. I'd at least drive as much as I could before I took the road test. When I had my permit, I was driving at least 6 hours a week. Oh, and practice your parallel parking. At least here in PA, you must parallel park to pass. You get three chances, but if you hit a cone, you auto fail.

just play GTA IV and try not to do what you do in the game. You should be fine.
