LCS-1 (USS Freedom) joins the 7th Fleet in the Pacific

Well, let's see. Joint SK/US exercises that have included (in the past weeks) a squadron of BUFFs (B-52) from Guam and an over-flight and dummy ordnance delivery via B-2 (which would indicate a US mainland takeoff - transcontinental/transoceanic flight - ordnance delivery - transcontinental/transoceanic return flight - US mainland landing) we now have a Littoral Combat Ship (first of a new class, design, concept) joining the Pacific Fleet.
Now, I know that NK has been making a lot of noise, and while the US hasn't been making any provocative or loud statements in public, does anyone else notice that we're repeating the "Great White Fleet" demonstration from Teddy?
So, is this a current day example of "speak softly, and carry a big stick"?
What say you? Are these "typical maneuvers and nothing to read into this" or is there a "we're not messing with anyone, but if someone wants to throw down... well, you may want to pack a lunch".

3 RepliesThe entire LCS class is badass. I prefer the [i]Independence[/i] class of LCS though. The versatility of the two types of ships is incredible. It can minesweep, support, control airspace, etc. with the various mission packages available.

NK recently cancelled the ceasefire and stated that their long range artillery / missiles were to be targeted towards US bases / territory. Were the USS Freedom a firepower platform or a brand new carrier I'd imagine that there was a message of deterrence being broadcast - given that "[the] USS Freedom is designed to be a fast, maneuverable and networked surface combatant for missions such as anti-mine warfare, anti-submarine warfare, surface warfare and humanitarian relief." (i.e. a support ship rather than the heavy hitter of the fleet), it seems more likely that this is simply a routine deployment within the broader fleet objectives.
