You betta check yo plug-ins

Adblock Plus founder: Google used Reader outcry to hide our Google Play takedown Since Google makes tons of money off of ads, it "makes sense" that they wouldn't want to encourage users of their products/services to have tools to block those income-producing ads. So far, this is limited to Android devices, but I could see Google attempting to render Chrome less capable of blocking ads. IMO, it's probably just a matter of time. So much for "don't be evil", eh?

  • I DVR and skip commercials. I stream Netflix so I don't have to watch commercials. When I am in a movie theater, PAID to watch a movie and they hit me up with commercials before the previews because they think that they have a captive audience? I have occasionally gone to the manager and asked for a partial refund for them attempting to profit off of MY time when I paid them to see a movie, not make me an income stream.

  • I don't think it's really 'evil' to try and prevent consumers of your services from totally bypassing your main system of generating revenue.

It sucks but I understand why they would want to do it. They're a business and they need the funds I guess, I mean they're doing some pretty innovative things in their industry. I don't mind watching an ad if I get free services I use on a daily basis. Ads on Xbox Live (a paid service) is a completely different story.

  •
So much for "don't be evil", eh?
Really Google is effectively neutral. They do good things but then they go and do stupid things. Then again by that same token, if you were faced with a person who was directly responsible for cutting your paycheck each week, would you just let it happen? Encourage him? No. Much as we hate it, ad money funds Google. It funds all the nice things that we like that Google provides. No money, no Google and no nice things. And somebody, we, have to pay for it. In this case, pay for it by viewing ads. Personally, I hate ads and think that Google should find a new revenue source but I'm trying to see both sides of the issue here.

    • Google isn't a non-profit organization, so even though I don't like these ads smothering my videos etc, I can relate that if we block them all, there will be no Google. A lot of people make it seem like it is a right to have no ads on these websites. The only thing I find creepy is targeted ads. >.> <.<

    • It was only a matter of time before greed got the best of Google. I miss the days where it was friendly, and was designed to be a utility.

      • This is an interesting dilemma, I wonder how it's going to be handled by the respective parties.

        • The funny thing about us Firefox users is that Firefox is made by Mozilla, under the Mozilla Corporation, under the Mozilla Foundation, which is funded almost exclusively by Google Inc.

        • I have the solution: don't block non-evasive ads. The ads you see to the side of webpages and YouTube, don't block those. The ones that are half a minute long and are unskippable, block them.

          • I have my doubts [them gimping ABP in Chrome]. Of course, they may remove ABP from the Chrome Store, they won't block it outright (that's a PR nightmare waiting to happen). Sort of makes sense they would take it down on the the Google Play store. After all, why should they distribute a product that blocks their income? Its not as if you can't still install Ad Block anyway. Its not iOS where Google's word is law on Android.

            • Everyone sees as much as an inconvenience ads are, but honestly even if you're not the audience they are looking for they are still finding people as their audience. It's a means that google has to take, so of course they are going to help themselves. It's google's 'product' if you will. So of course they are going to secure themselves on the subject.

            • I love Ad Block as it makes everything quicker, less cluttered and makes websites look so much better but I do feel a little bad when I read articles like this one.

Ads are distracting (especially flashy or audible ones) and when they're shown before your content it's an inconvenience. The majority of them are of no relevance to me either and that's why I usually avoid commercial TV and most streaming videos.

Good, Adblock pisses me off. I don't want to pay money to use Google's products, I'm willing to have an ad off to the side of the page to help me not pay for the services, I'm willing to have an add before certain youtube videos that I can skip within 5 seconds usually. This isn't evil.
