I'm not saying I hate co-op -- in fact, I love co-op -- but in MMOs and shooters with more expansive maps/areas to explore and fight in, I've always enjoyed being less of 'one of the guys (and/or girls)' and preferred skirting the edges of the map; using guerilla tactics. Less concerned with being a hero; instead, being a silent guardian; a watchful protector... A dark...
You get it. But I think with the 'background matchmaking,' or whatever they called it, it's going to be even more fun to play as a lone wolf and come across other people in the middle of a huge firefight, or struggling in a mission, and being able to appear out of nowhere and help them out.
I find that concept equally exciting as exploring and adventuring through the worlds with friends who have my back.

I'm mostly a single player campaign kind of guy but if I come across a group that I can join and play with for a while then be on my way I'm cool with that too.
-
I will end up lone wolfing, but only because I don't have any gamer friends. Hope to maybe find some to play Destiny with.
-
Yeah, I will probably play it solo for the most part. Only time I will play co-op is when a friend/friends need my help or if I find a group of players overwhelmed in a fight etc. I do tend to want co-op sessions only though (from time to time), so if you ever cross a lone Hunter, just ask him if he want to co-op, he might just do.
-
The 2 people I will primarily play this game with like to explore and take time just like me. I'm thankful for that.
-
I will probably try to lone wolf it.. but it may be impossible if you wander into a public area?

Edited by Shinji_Ex: 2/23/2013 2:20:36 AMOnly reason I never played much of Borderlands online co-op was cause GearBox did not handle the loot system correctly Hopefully Bungie does it well however they give out items and money etc.

I've also played defiance and for all its faults it is a game that has created an environment of as it's been called "natural co-op." I'm really hoping Destiny is like that just with improved story telling and UI. I feel kinda weird leading a group but like stumbling upon events already in motion with a clear goal, help those dudes and destroy those guys. For me I have my own plans and like to wander/explore at my leisure on my own time and group up when I feel like it.

Started a new topic: Good luck being "lone wolves" in Destiny.(39 Replies))

Yeah I'll be up for both co-op and lonewolf. It depends on the mood actually. I more often am keen for co-op whenever my mates are online, BUT somenights I feel like a bit of quiet gaming - so no in game chat, which pretty much means its fairer for me to go lonewolf style.
-
...Do we even know if that's how the game is played?
-
You sound like you have already played the game. how is it? I plan to find out more about the game until I begin to make any kind of decisions regarding play style.
-
Yes. Although I can't knock co-op, because my lovely demon child and I often play co-op together. Still, when the kid is in bed, I'd much rather just free explore with no known destination, and no real team. It's beautiful in the big bad world out there.
-
I love to explore by myself, so yes.
-
Well, I am a wanderer. Therefore I will most likely wander alone. So Yes.
-
at first yes but hopefully i will be able to build up a large enough following to be called an army lol its only a dream though a dream that will need to be done if we are to purge these aliens from our world!!!
-
What I hope to do is build a small, strong hit group of people that will always be on at around the same time so that we can pick off the unsuspecting.
-
I really hope the game's complete story will be able to be experienced by non-social gamers. I'd like to play with friends, but I don't have any gamer friends, and with school and work I don't have the time to organize "meetings" with people over the internet. I was a huge KOTOR fan and had been eagerly awaiting the third chapter when TOR was announced. Alas, I never got to finish the story for said reasons.
-
I'll play with my friends if this ever comes out on PC. We usually bro-op games like this. Other than that I'll engage in some Jolly Cooperation every now and again with random groups, but the majority will most likely be by myself. And honestly, I hope the "social" aspect isn't as bad as I think it will be. I'd hate seeing all the "Joe Shmoe NEEDS YOUR HELP to beat level 62 in DestinyVille" crap.
-
I plan to play it with my sister and my dad. I probably won't be able to play with my only friend who is interested in Destiny because it doesn't look like we will get cross-platform play. I might start the game by myself though just so I can go at my own pace and appreciate the game without social distraction.
-
I mean, I have always played through a Bungie game alone to start with, so I will probably would want to finish the game once before I hit it up online, but after that initial playthough, you can bet I will be cruising around with my posse, especially since it would be composed of friends from b.net.
-
Lone Wolf. All day, every day.
-
I usually lone wolf also unless my friend is online and wants to play also. I always wanted to be able to come across people and randomly help out.
-
I enjoy playing with groups of friends as much as groups of strangers, and I'll always do what I Can to provide for the group. That being said my style has been and unless the situation absolutely requires otherwise will always be long ranged strategical gameplay, very similar to your style of hugging the outskirts of the map and changing the outcome of a battle from afar. So far one of the designs I've seen has showed a character with a BFG (Big F***ing Gun) that resembled a sniper rifle, and I'm almost already 100% sure that will be the class I end up playing. Long story short, I doubt I'll be lone wolfing it. But with a game that has as much immersion as Bungie's I doubt I'll have a problem finding a group of friends to play with if mine don't.
-
I have a concern. Everyone here seems pretty nice so I wouldn't mind playing with you guys (I am new though), but many people over the internet are (to put it nicely... unpleasant) Jackasses. If I'm going to be stuck in a universe playing with those creatures I'll certainly go solo. Maybe Bungie could have a settings place like gamerzone on xboxlive so I can play with people who aren't... Unpleasant.
-
I usually play with one buddy and find others online to play/interact with/against. That's how i like my gaming experience controlled with mild hassle.
-
Oh hell no. I'll be roaming with my buddies from start to finish. I've been dying for a great co-op game that doesn't limit to just 4 people for so long now.
