Problem with capitalisation in tag system

So I've been trying to adapt to this new hashtag system, and it's really starting to annoy me. Whenever someone makes a hashtag, that version becomes the standard. For example, I often post history-related news stories, so I use the tag #history. Unfortunately, the first person to use that tag used it for a thread about the History Channel, so the tag always comes up as #History, despite my efforts to keep it lowercase. Just a few minutes ago I posted a thread in a private group using the tag #legacy, but someone had already used that spelling previously with the tag #leGaCy. I'm now stuck using that retarded capitalisation if I ever use that tag. I know enough about programming that in some cases capitalisation will be disregarded. I'm guessing that's causing this bug, but I have no idea if it's fixable with the way Bungie programmed their new site. A fix or at least explanation of why it can't be fixed would be greatly appreciated.

  • Why would you not want the first letter capitalized?

    • I agree, and also you should add the #feedback to this comment, that helps it get noticed. I imagine that there is an ID associated with each tag, and once a tag is generated, whatevet text was used to create the tag is how it is displayed. Programatically there are a few workarounds for this, but the simplest and easiest to implement would be to have all tags lowercase. But I would recommend adding a new string variable to each post, and have this variable hold a string of tags as the user entered them, and not associate each tag with the string linked to the tags ID. This would allow the user to determine how the tag is displayed, and not have each variation of a tag spelling be unique. So #Feedback and #FeedBack are seen the same by the system, but is displayed how the user wanted the tag to be displayed.
