Aiming down the sights?

According to this article from Gameinformer, we can actually look down our weapons' sights in Destiny. I'm glad, if this is true--even though I could have sworn I saw a classic aiming reticle in the ViDoc, a'la Halo. Do we think this was just a placeholder, or is Gameinformer misinformed? (Pun intended). I, for one, would welcome new ADS overlords. Even though I understood Halo's fiction about smart-linked weapons, and why that gave SPARTANs a reticle in their HUD, I've always felt that actually being able to aim down your weapon's sights in an FPS adds a layer of immersion that's otherwise unreachable. I really hope we CAN aim down sights in Destiny.

  • i think it would be cool if we didnt acturly have any crosshairs or reticle because it would make the game so much harder but so much funnier your weapon would be something you would have to master

  • Of course we'll be able to, why wouldn't it be possible?

    • Meh.... I won't rage if it's similar to COD aiming, but I will be a bit disappointed. I really like the classic aiming that is used in Halo titles and hope it stays. Maybe there can some form of hybrid between the two aiming styles.

@Apothecary Matt: Yeah, depending on how the guns and ballistics actually work in terms of gameplay it would be cool to actually have to get used to the feel and recoil of different weapons that you pick up, and be forced to 'master' them instead of just picking them up and immediately having an idea of what optimal range/damage they've got. @darthrevan96: Because none of the Halo games have had the option to aim down a weapon's sights, apart from the stick-clicking to zoom in on scoped weapons. @DHTH777: Yeah, I could see that working. For instance, in Dead Space 3 you can actually change your aiming style between the classic version and the generic, centered third person aiming. Even though I get that things are a little bit different for an FPS as apposed to a third person shooter, it would be nice to have the option.

    • It's very probable that Destiny will have it. Personally, I don't really see a lot of use for it. It doesn't really immerse me that much, but it helps longer distance aim in some scenarios. However, if that mechanic comes to Destiny, I don't want to see it being handled like in most shooters where aiming down the sights slow you down. I don't want to see Destiny go down the way of all the other shooters that try to be too realistic. I want the movement mechanics to be more reminiscent of Halo than of the shooters that try to be more realistic because I enjoy the freedom of movement. The classic aiming reticule doesn't necessarily mean lack of ADS, the Crysis series has both. I'm fairly certain Destiny will have ADS. I'm ready to welcome that mechanic, but I still want to see the kind of freedom of movement we had in Halo. Not many shooters these days have movement mechanics that are actually fun.

    • I think the reason there was no ADS in Halo was because that was its style. Destiny is a new game in a new world, I welcome ADS, Bungie shouldn't be bogged down because of their previous game. I trust they will place a let of references to all their other universes like they did in Halo though.

      • @tsassi2: Yeah, the freedom of movement in Halo was one of the things that really set it aside from most other shooters. I hope they keep that too, but I imagine they will, since Destiny is purportedly going to have a real emphasis on exploration; hopefully there will be places that introduce platforming to find different or secret locations, kind of like what Guild Wars 2 has. @Glogsplat: True, that WAS Halo's style. So yes, with any luck Destiny will feature an ADS system. And oh, it's Bungie. I can't imagine them making a game without more than a few easter eggs or subtle references to their past works.

          • I don't care, I welcome it. Halo plays like Halo, Destiny will play like Destiny.

          • I think ADS works so long as you can't ADS with every weapon. Shotguns, SMGs and pistols should be exempt from ADS to better define their role within the class balance.
