Sure, it may be the "gateway" and important in that respect, but the lore in CE, 3 and ODST was far superior. Halo 2's lore consisted of showing us a generic city, making the aliens less alien and mysterious, introducing flawed antagonists and ruining the first game by introducing [i]six[/i] other Halo rings capable of wiping out all life.
