HDTV Splitscreen problem! 4:3 Aspect ratio??!?!?!

As some of you know, I recieved my Halo 3 copy today from the Pontiac contest. I have been playing campaign fine by myself for about an hour. My brother just got here and we went in to do some splitscreen co-op campaign, and bam... Theres black bars on the left and right side of the screen! I tried going through every setting, reading the manual, checked my Xbox360 settings but it wont change! Any suggestions (or anyone else with their copy confirm this issue?) Thanks.

  • Ok well I didnt read all 16 pages, because Im guessing everyone is having the same problem. But from the first 3 pages there seemed to be a mix of immature and mature responses. If youre going to be rude, dont post. Plain and simple. But Im going to try and formulate a response. Im a junior at Ringling College of Art and design in the computer animation department, and my future plan is to work for bungie. Ive been playin their games forever. So Im a HUGE fan of Halo. Before Halo 3 came out I recently purchased a 37" LCD HDTV 1080p. Upon recieving my Halo3 Legendary Edition, I immediately dived in and played campaign. Perfect, no problems. Then Played Co-Op. Horrible. I cant read the subtitles, and I cant tell what Grenade I have. As you said, It shrinks to a 4:3 instead of 16:9. This is the same for 2 player multiplayer and 3 player multiplayer. I havent tried 4 but Im sure its the same. This of course is an issue to hundreds if not thousands of players. If this was in beta-version, they should have addressed players who were disheartened by this feature and made an available :classic view: option in your Halo 3 screen settings. Its not that hard. Saying that, our school has a game area with a 62" Plasma that is also HDTV and 1080p. They were playing co-op and had NO SCALING PROBLEMS. Why? I asked them about my problem, and they said they have never had that problem. I dont understand? Bungie, I can understand youre trying to fix the viewing capabilities issue, but what about the people who dont have a 62" plasma? I have a 37" and its a problem. So far, this new "feature" (and a few menu features) has dwindled my experience of halo 3. Despite being busy with school, I dont really look forward to playing this game, because I enjoy playing it with other people. I dont want this to ruin the reputation of Halo or Bungie. There needs to be an address to the problem as soon as possible. Come out with a weekly update mentioning this, and that you are working on a solution, which honestly shouldnt be to difficult and shouldnt take to long. The Solution: Come out with an additional option in the SCREEN SETTINGS menu, besides brightness and subtitles (thats pretty weak if there are only 2 options); come out with an additional option under screen settings which lets you adjust your screen to something like "Classic" or "Default." Default would leave the screen settings the way Halo 3 came out with, and Classic would turn the screen to FULL, that is 16:9 during single player mode, or forced 16:9 during multiplayer or Co-Op. Just like halo 2. I dont think there was many complaints about the Horizontal screen settings in multiplayer or co-op in halo 2 as there is about the current screen settings in Halo 3. It was almost like you rushed it out before completing the setting options... Im not telling you Bungie that you suck, because that would be incorrect. I look up to all of you, you guys have a HUGE reputation. Please, Please - Please Update this issue. I think I speak for the majority of players out there- this should be a first if not second priority update.
