The White House has issued a formal response to the petition to deport British television host Piers Morgan for his outspoken views on gun control, chiding Second Amendment supporters to keep the First Amendment in mind too.
"The Constitution not only guarantees an individual right to bear arms, but also enshrines the freedom of speech and the freedom of the press -- fundamental principles that are essential to our democracy," wrote Press Secretary Jay Carney. "Americans may disagree on matters of public policy and express those disagreements vigorously, but no one should be punished by the government simply because he or she expressed a view on the Second Amendment -- or any other matter of public concern."
The petition was created December 21 on the White House "We the People" petition site. It quickly passed the 25,000 signature threshold required for an official response from the Obama Administration, ultimately garnering more than 100,000 signatures

Any and all of you asking for the man to be deported are worse than him, you're no better than the damn commie censors in China, or the facists in Nahtzee Germany. If you truely support the first amendment, then you will stand your ground and face down those looking to censor a view you disagree with.

LMAO! Get the -blam!- outa here.
that an unbalanced man shouldn't be able to get his hands on a military-style assault rifle so easily;
Yeah, The Sandy Hook killer (refuse to say his name in order of not giving him any unnecessary attention) went to purchase an AR-15 days before his shooting rampage but was unable to due to Massachusetts strict gun laws.
-
Da fuk is Achronos doing editing this randomly? Still though, he's on American soil, we can't deport him just because he exercised free speech.
-
"He has a different opinion than us, how dare he? Deport his ass!"
-
dont care so
im leaving
-
I thought this thread died But a deported Pier Morgan is the best Pier Morgan.
-
I'm glad i'm British. Gun Control = Safer Kingdom.
-
I don't agree with everything Piers Morgan believes or says by a long shot, but I do agree with him on some issues. Regardless of our difference in opinions, he has every right to speak his opinions and believe them, and I don't get upset over someone having a different opinion than me. And everyone says he's a dickhead, and sure, he certainly can be, but a lot of his guests I've seen are horrible people that honestly scare me because they could be dangerous. Piers holds no real power, but some of these people with radical views do, and some of their radical views I do not defend, because it leads to extremism in some way, and it's frightening.
-
A true American will defend the right of Piers Morgan to say whatever he wants and the people who are protesting him, since they are speaking their mind. A true American will defend both sides' rights to say whatever they want.
-
Defending any human to the death is stupid.
-
i fail to see how they thought the could ignore the First amendment yet hold the second one sacred and not seem like a intolerant group of people.you may not like what he says but because of the very document you use to restrict gun control, he is allowed to speak his mind and not be deported.

Video link. Piers morgan vs Alex jones. You might want to watch this.
-
>disagrees with Piers Morgan's opinion >wants him deported because of it >no grounds to actually do so The Constitution applies to every person on American soil, citizen or not, with very few exceptions. lern2civics
-
the guy's a slimy prick, you guys can keep him.
-
-
What? No. A true American, will want him deported.
-
Edited by Bucket of Tears: 1/13/2013 12:26:34 AMPiers Morgan only invokes the constitution when its convenient for his own defense.
-
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. You can't simply deport someone if you don't agree with them.
-
I'm American and I dont own a gun. I don't care about Piers Morgan either. He's a bellend.
-
Oh an by the way. Just watching the first 30 seconds of this clip Will show that he doesn't actually want all guns gone or the second amendment repealed or something like that
-
Please don't deport Piers Morgan, we thought we'd got rid of him. Seriously though, if you're going to deport him for "abusing his position" and "poisoning people's minds", I take it you'll be deporting the whole of Fox News' payroll as well?
-
People are crazy these days. They think that the constitution only applies to American citizens, when in fact, it was created for the ideals of Americans, and for anyone else who sought its protection. People forget that america was supposed to be founded on tolerance, freedom, and individuality.
-
Damn straight. I don't agree with a single ounce of the verbal diarrhea spewing from his mouth, but you don't get to choose which amendments should be enforced. He's got just as much a right to say that as I do to say that he's the stereotypical Europeasant who's counting his days before he's "culturally enriched" at knifepoint.
-
I may not agree with most of the mans points, but the decision that a man should basically be exiled for what he believes in is bordering the extreme. By the logic that he's a stain for American Liberties, it's only fair to say that other undesirables should be cast out also, something that does not openly happen in civilized nations anymore (at least on this public of a scale).
-
Piers Morgan is p cool dude mango I don't agree with 100% of what he says but most of what he says I agree with. He also managed to keep his composure while talking to Alex Jones; that is a feat that all mankind should respect.
-
I think the petition was more of a statement of how many people disliked his views.
