Design an Emblem Contest Winner Revealed

Amidst waves of entries, one swashbuckled and spliced its mainbrace above the rest. That's not to say other entries didn't inspire us, though. click for full story

 •
Posted by: Xupaosso
Posted by: SEspider I'm very sorry, Noah, but as a Hard working artist, I feel cheated, I can't just sit by on this. To Bungie, Here's PROOF that he cheated. I used the image frrom the news article of Noah's design, Blew it up, and overlayed the Ninja over it. And this is the result. http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/750/proofofcheatingno2.jpg Now I KNOW that Bungie re-drew it for the game. And it's possible that they reused the Ninja themselves. But Noah himself (page one of this thread) says himself that it's an exact match. And once again, please notice the use of Weapons in the design, and the fact that we already have a pirate emblem.. Case Closed...I hope.
If you were any kind of real "Hard working artist" you, and the rest of the flamers in this thread, would understand that there is huge value in continuity and uniformity. I am a "hard working artist" - I get paid very well to be such - and the majority of my time is spent on tweaking small ideas that have been in place for a long time. I can't tell you how many times I've "copied" a previous idea or concept to save time, money, and sanity without sacrificing the quality of the work. Props out to Noah - way to go, man.
Sorry for the late reply. Been having computer problems. Now to the responce: First off, I'm a free lance artist that can RARELY get work in my area. There's just not much demand for artst in my city. Because of that, I've had to find clients in other cities and that cost me money and time. And because of that, I don't get paid "very well" as you may or may not. And because money is scarece and rare, I do my best to satisfy my clients. Even if they know absolutly NOTHING about art, dedsign, and/or layouts. I also know when to work hard on something and when NOT to work hard on it. For example, if a client continues to change their mind/design idea ever day or so, then I'm not going to work hard on the project only to have it completely overhauled the next day. Siturations like that require shortcuts and such. So I have no problem with short cuts when they are NEEDED to make the job easier. In the case of the Pirate Emblem, it was NOT needed. It's a good design, I admited that a number of times. I even gave Noah Congratulations for the win. I'm Glad he won, but I'm not at all glad with HOW he won. Pratically no effort was put into the design, nor is it really original in any way. The head is a purfect cut/paste from the Ninja emblem, The Swords are taken from the Spartan Emblem with a minor modifications in apperance, and in no way is the look of the Pirate's look new. Not to mention the fact that we were NOT allowed to use weapons in our deesigns. And the Swords are JUST THAT!! Even if the swords were replaced, with a hat, it'll still be in violation of the Rules because of the lake of originality and stealing the Ninja's look. Members like myself and jaymz9mm for example clearly followed the rules to the "T" and made FULLY ORIGINAL designs. Not all of the designs are original concepts however. I used a freaking Spider for crying out loud. lol. But the STYLE of it is original as it's layout. I created over a dozen emblem designs that had nothing to do with spiders. I did not submit the spider simply because it resembled my GamerTag. I submited it because it allowed creativity within the interface of the Halo3 Emblem section. As I've stated a number of times, I "WORKED" with the emblem. Did tests and found it to work really well in creating unigue emblems to suit most if not all players. I originally had the legs of the spider closer and thicker, but that just didn't work well in creating unigue emblems. But thining them out, rearranging them some really opened up the possibilites. Though some of my other designs did just that, NONE did it so effectivly as the Spider. But no matter which design I submitted or anyone else, it had to follow the rules and allow creativity with within the interface. And though it looks somewhat cool, Noah's Pirate Emblem Just Does NOT do any of that. I've playeed with Noah's deesign and nothing seemed to work with it. Unlike the ninja, the Pirate has a transparent face. And unless all you absolutly WANT to see the Pirate, it's useless. If you look around the Halo community and the online gamers, you'll see that almost all players have found ways to create Unigue designs that set them apart. Some have become so popular that they are now copied by other gamers. The Afro-Skull comes to mind.
By jaymz9mm Entries must be original work You may not use any existing corporation’s logos, trademarks or other identifiable images Your entry must be original, must not have been previously published ... and must have been created and owned exclusively by you Entries may not contain: firearms/weapons; any content that contains trademarks, logos; copyrighted materials owned by others (including ... other works of art or images published on or in websites, television, movies or other media) Granted that it's all up to Bungie in the end, but it's just kind of a slap in the face to everyone that did painstakingly read and abide by all the regulations just to see the selected art violates half of them. Rules are rules, why have them if they didn't matter? It was kind of ridiculous that we weren't allowed to submit an icon with weapons for a game that embodies war, I chose to respect that rather than risk disqualification. There will always be sore losers in every contest, but I think a lot less people would have been upset if the winning entry wasn't in blatant violation of the rules.
Agreed. It's a HUGE Slap in the face. The ONLY reason I see that Noah won (with respect to Noah) is because of the whole POTC movie thing and the Bungie's Pimps At Sea thing. Clearly someone at Bungie is a huge Pirates fan, and got bias when choosing a winner. Why else would they choose such an obviace design that breaks ALL of the rules?!?! By the way, I'm NOT a sore loser. I would care a LOT less if this contest was for a Blinx: The Time Sweeper game. But it's not. It's for Halo. A video game that's popular all around the world and have become a phanominon. With your art in the game, it's basically a gaint Billboard that travels all around the world and into the homes of hundreads of thousands of gamers. We all know that Bungie/Microsoft will include Credits in both the game and manurals with the Artist's name. And having your name along side that of Bungie, Microsoft, and Halo, is a HUGE opprotunity to get clients all around this Blue Globe of ours. No, I'm not a sore loser, I'm a struggling artist that sees opprotunities. Opprotunities that were snatched away by a cheater. And as we all know from Halo2, Cheaters RUIN EVERYTHING!!
