Amidst waves of entries, one swashbuckled and spliced its mainbrace above the rest. That's not to say other entries didn't inspire us, though. click for full story

 •
Posted by: Xupaosso If you were any kind of real "Hard working artist" you, and the rest of the flamers in this thread, would understand that there is huge value in continuity and uniformity. I am a "hard working artist" - I get paid very well to be such - and the majority of my time is spent on tweaking small ideas that have been in place for a long time. I can't tell you how many times I've "copied" a previous idea or concept to save time, money, and sanity without sacrificing the quality of the work. Props out to Noah - way to go, man.
I'm in the same field, and I know exactly what you mean. Also, being in the same field, you should know that you have to adhere to a set of limitations/requirements or face the consequences (whatever they might be). I think it's commendable that Noah made a clean, consistent looking piece and stood out among the rest, but the point is he seemed to overlook a couple specifications in the rules that should have resulted in disqualification. I'm sure many others were not considered on the same grounds:
Entries must be original work You may not use any existing corporation’s logos, trademarks or other identifiable images Your entry must be original, must not have been previously published ... and must have been created and owned exclusively by you Entries may not contain: firearms/weapons; any content that contains trademarks, logos; copyrighted materials owned by others (including ... other works of art or images published on or in websites, television, movies or other media)
Granted that it's all up to Bungie in the end, but it's just kind of a slap in the face to everyone that did painstakingly read and abide by all the regulations just to see the selected art violates half of them. Rules are rules, why have them if they didn't matter? It was kind of ridiculous that we weren't allowed to submit an icon with weapons for a game that embodies war, I chose to respect that rather than risk disqualification. There will always be sore losers in every contest, but I think a lot less people would have been upset if the winning entry wasn't in blatant violation of the rules.
