There was the first battle of Harvest set during Staten's novel (Contact Harvest) which marked the first proper battle between humanity and the Covenant. Then they lifted Cole out of retirement and he went with 40 ships for the second battle of Harvest while Covenant forces on the ground searched for Forerunner relics (tying in with Halo Wars and the discovery of the Star Map).
